With the President's stop in Jakarta, Indonesia he gave a brief stay and speech. He stated that "Indonesia is a part of me." This giving reference to his residency of Indonesia as a child. The president spoken in their language was met with cheers from a audience of 6,000 at the University of Indonesia. The President's speech displayed many personal experiences as he also described some things he did as a boy while living in Jakarta with his mother. Obama made mention of fields and goats as his days as a youth. Mainly, the President's still encourages forging to a common ground of trust and any "suspicion and mistrust" against terrorism. Obama also felt compelled to speak of Christian and Muslim having some common ground for differences and allowing growth toward peace. He is quoted as saying speaking of both sides.."be defined by our differences..."or do the hard work of forging common ground and commit ourselves to the steady pursuit of progress."
During his speech the President noted that he is a Christian --and that he continues to fight perceptions that he is Muslim. Living in Indonesia, he did study the Quran and visited a local mosque. Not down-trodding the Islamic religion the President stated words that described Islam as a "great world religion." Departing, the next stop for the President and Mrs. Obama is South Korea for the G-20 Summit.
