Brother Deacon, I mean Republicans will take the Presidency in 2016. Part of the reason is because of the gun control issue.

Donald Trump:

“I am a Life Member of the NRA and am proud of their service in protecting our right to keep and bear arms. The NRA’s efforts to stop dangerous, gun-banning legislation and regulation is invaluable. The media focus on those efforts overshadows the great work the NRA does on behalf of safety and conservation.

I have a permit to carry and, living in New York, I know firsthand the challenges law-abiding citizens have in exercising their Second Amendment rights. My most trusted sources are my sons, Don, Jr. and Eric. They are fantastic sportsmen and are deeply involved in hunting, competitive shooting, and habitat conservation.”

OK! Lower Middle Class or Upper Lower Class. I offend wondered about the thinking of modern day Libertarians and the very fact that you are on Social Security seem like a conflict of interest. Are you a follower of Ayn Rands philosophy as well?

Tuesday, July 28th 2015 at 9:46PM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are great novels, and we all know what happened to the Soviet Union. Brother Deacon, it would be a conflict of interest only if I was thinking only of myself. Every child born in this country is born into over $56,000 of debt.

Nice side step Brother Steve. "Are you a follower of Ayn Rands philosophy as well?"

Wednesday, July 29th 2015 at 6:22AM

Brother Deacon, one of the reasons I voted for Jill Stein was because she advocated for free college education for all. I don't think that's someting Ayn Rand would have advocated. Ayn Rand certainly had a point and I get that point. I guess you could call me a follower for getting her point. I'm a Libertarian because I don't think drugs should be illegal and I think taxes are excessive, and that the Federal Reserve should be abolished, as well as our imperial practices around the world.

Brother Steve,

What is this! In my very direct question I asked of you was not who you voted for, that was not my question to you.

Now you are going to tell me that you guess you are a follower. Come on Brother Steve, now you are trying to blow smoke up my behind. It sounds like and I could be an error, that so support Ayn Rand, is that correct?

Wednesday, July 29th 2015 at 9:10AM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
I agree with Ayn Rand on these points, that society depends on producers, that bureaucracy produces nothing, but bureaucracy does restrict producers. I don't like the word follower Brother Deacon. I pick and choose and when it comes to voting I am never in total agreement with whom I vote for. I don't worry because government is as system of checks and balances. I could equally vote for Stein, Johnson, Sanders or Trump. It's more important whom I will not vote for. I didn't vote for Obama either time but I did vote for Bill Clinton his second term. That might have been a mistake but so was when I voted for Bush Sr. in '88. I'm happy to say I never voted for Bush Jr. either. The two-party system is the single biggest danger to the future of this country. Ayn Rand was an idealist and none of us has the luxury of idealism.

The libertarian party was founded on many of Ayn Rand Philosophy. As a young man I remember the Phil Donahue show with interviews with Ayn Rand where she believes the producers or the Corporation millionaires should run the government and not the people. The very same social Security benefits that you are enjoying today should have been eliminated and those programs should have been run by private entities according to Ayn Rand. Lies have been told about Social Security be insolvent But in a report just released, that the solvency of Social Security will Will pay out subsidies for the next 30 years.

This is the lie told by the Libertarian party candidate for president during the last presidential election. What since do it make to be in a party that votes against the very programs, about your best interest that you now enjoy today and you are not in the ruling classes?

What sense does that make? I will do more research on the Libertarian party and I will get back with you Brother Steve.

WHAT IS ARI’S VIEW OF THE LIBERTARIAN MOVEMENT?
1. Has ARI changed its position on libertarianism?
No. But the meaning of the term “libertarian” has been changing over the decades. Consequently, individuals or organizations that today call themselves “libertarian” may or may not hold the ideas we oppose.

The libertarianism we oppose is a specific set of ideas, the essence of which is a dedicated, thoroughgoing subjectivism. Libertarianism in this sense was spearheaded by Murray Rothbard and his followers in the 1960s and 1970s. Its political expression is anarchism, or “anarcho-capitalism” as they often term it, and a foreign policy of rabid anti-Americanism (which they pass off as “non-interventionism”).

The “libertarians,” in this usage of the term, plagiarize Ayn Rand’s non-initiation of force principle and convert it into an axiom, denying the need for and relevance of philosophical fundamentals — not only the underlying ethics, but also the underlying metaphysics and epistemology.

This is the anti-objective, anti-philosophic position that, in 1985, ARI’s then-chairman of the board, Peter Schwartz, properly denounced in his essay “Libertarianism: The Perversion of Liberty.” That comprehensive critique of libertarianism exposes the movement’s essence: nihilism. (A condensed version of this article is published in The Voice of Reason: Essays in Objectivist Thought under the same title.) We agreed with and continue to agree with the essence of Peter Schwartz’s analysis.

As Mr. Schwartz demonstrated at length, this libertarianism declares that the value of liberty and the evil of initiating force are self-evident primaries, needing no justification or even explanation — leaving undefined such key concepts as “liberty,” “force,” “justice,” “good,” and “evil.” It claims compatibility with all views in metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics — even subjectivism, mysticism, skepticism, altruism, and nihilism — substituting “hate the state” for intellectual content.

This is why Ayn Rand opposed it from the start.

In print in 1972 Rand issued this warning to individuals interested in defending capitalism:

Above all, do not join the wrong ideological groups or movements, in order to “do something.” By “ideological” (in this context), I mean groups or movements proclaiming some vaguely generalized, undefined (and, usually, contradictory) political goals. (E.g., the Conservative Party, that subordinates reason to faith, and substitutes theocracy for capitalism; or the “libertarian” hippies, who subordinate reason to whims, and substitute anarchism for capitalism.) To join such groups means to reverse the philosophical hierarchy and to sell out fundamental principles for the sake of some superficial political action which is bound to fail. [“What Can One Do?” The Ayn Rand Letter, Vol. 1, No. 7]
(For more of Rand’s comments on the libertarian movement, see here.)

ARI has always viewed the movement holding this set of ideas and attitudes as an enemy of capitalism and freedom, and we continue to do so. We will never sanction, cooperate with, or collaborate with any organization that advocates “libertarianism” in this sense. This policy is required both as a matter of integrity and in intellectual self-defense. The principle involved was identified by Ayn Rand: “In any collaboration between two men (or two groups) who hold different basic principles, it is the more evil or irrational one who wins.” [“The Anatomy of Compromise,” Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal]

When this subjectivist approach to philosophy and politics dominated the libertarian movement in the ’70s and ’80s, ARI refused to cooperate with anyone belonging to it. Such cooperation would have constituted a sanction of the anti-ideology of libertarianism. However, today we see evidence to suggest that there is no longer a cohesive libertarian movement. The movement has become fragmented and leaderless (intellectually as well as organizationally), and the term “libertarian” is progressively losing its former meaning.

Thus when someone or some organization today calls itself, or is called by others, “libertarian,” one should not assume that this means the person or organization is part of the anti-philosophical libertarian movement. What matters, in evaluating these individuals and organizations, are the ideas they actually hold and advocate.

The term “libertarian” has been used increasingly over the last few years to mean a vague leaning toward liberty rather than government control. Many people, including reporters and commentators, sense that neither “liberals” nor “conservatives” are advocates of freedom. Commentators need a different term to describe those who seem to be more on the side of liberty and will often use the term “libertarian.”

However, none of the three political terms — “liberal,” “conservative,” or “libertarian” — has a clearly defined meaning, because there exist no clearly defined ideologies. Consequently, the fact that today someone calls himself or is called by others a “libertarian” says virtually nothing about his political viewpoint: he could be a religionist, an anarchist, a laissez-faire capitalist, a middle-of-the-roader, etc. In the current terminological confusion, we look to the content of the ideas advocated, not just to the label attached to them.

Thursday, July 30th 2015 at 10:49AM
Steve Williams
Brother Steve,

Let us not play the game of words here. You are taking part in a federally founded social safety net, that if the libertarians and Republicans have their way, they will gut to privatize those programs. The question you asked about where the monies go if you was not beniting from it? That money would go back into Social Security. Now social Security, medicare, medicaid, the affordable healthcare act, affordable housing, public school, aid to dependent children are just a few of the federal social safety net programs that will be wiped out under a Republican or libertarian administration in this country. This plan would roll back the American Dream some 50 - 60 years, back beyond the days of the civil right bill, the passing of the laws to a 40 hour, 5 day, 8 hour a day work week and you want to give that up, so some crazy can carry a weapon into a school, church or bar, now to me that is ludicrous.

Libertarians know that they cannot win office by themselves, so with in the last decade they have been trying to hijack the Republican Party which is a lesson means to greater evil. Once corporation get their hands on these programs, they will have more federal dollars to play with which they will not owe an allegiance to the American people.

Brother Steve,

Have you forgot that the U.S. was engaged in two wars that had to be paid for? The so-called off the book wars.

Runaway inflation.

1. Passed Health Care Reform: After five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance, signed the Affordable Care Act (2010).

2. Passed the Stimulus: Signed $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth amid greatest recession since the Great Depression.

3. Passed Wall Street Reform: Signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010) to re-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession.

4. Ended the War in Iraq: Ordered all U.S. military forces out of the country. Last troops left on December 18, 2011.

5. Eliminated Osama bin laden: In 2011, ordered special forces raid of secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in which the terrorist leader was killed and a trove of al-Qaeda documents was discovered. Which gorgy could not do.

6. Began Drawdown of War in Afghanistan: From a peak of 101,000 troops in June 2011, U.S. forces are now down to 91,000, with 23,000 slated to leave by the end of summer 2012

7. Turned Around U.S. Auto Industry: In 2009, injected $62 billion in federal money (on top of $13.4 billion in loans from the Bush administration) into ailing GM and Chrysler in return for equity stakes and agreements for massive restructuring. Since bottoming out in 2009, the auto industry has added more than 100,000 jobs. You remember the call, “LET THEM FAIL!”

8. Recapitalized Banks: In the midst of financial crisis, approved controversial Treasury Department plan to lure private capital into the country’s largest banks via “stress tests” of their balance sheets and a public-private fund to buy their “toxic” assets. Got banks back on their feet at essentially zero cost to the government.

9. Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”: Ended 1990s-era restriction and formalized new policy allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military for the first time.

10. Reversed Bush Torture Policies: Two days after taking office, nullified Bush-era rulings that had allowed detainees in U.S. custody to undergo certain “enhanced” interrogation techniques considered inhumane under the Geneva Conventions. Also released the secret Bush legal rulings supporting the use of these techniques.

These are just a few of the things that the Obama Ammonization cleaned up after the libertarians in the Republican Party left Obama and the American people to do. I am sure I can find forty more achievements improvement to the country as well.

Brother Steve, I can’t believe how short your memory is.

Brother Deacon,

If you had $33,000 on your credit card and a stack of invoices for new purchases of $23,000 and you took out that credit card and paid those invoices, giving yourself $56,000 of debt, would you consider you'd successfully dealt with your problems?

I would consider it to be a problem especially when someone is constantly block your way to paid that bill, like in the case of the hi-jacked republican party which talks about letting Wall Street and The Banks run free, without set guidelines to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Brother Deacon,

My own best interests are my five children and five grandchildren. I would never vote against my own best interests.

Brother Steve,

I would agree that our grandchildren are our greatest interest. The Koch Brothers want to put there hands on social security which our grandchildren could enjoy if you vote against the hi-jacked republican party by the Libertarians. They claim that they will not touch people that is already on social security but they will effect your children and grandchildren.

That is what I call voting against your best interest, do you want that to happen?

Friday, July 31st 2015 at 11:57AM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
Brother Deacon,

The Koch brothers and Social Security are not the issue. Debt is the issue. Including my step-grand daughter, in my family alone, in the first and second generations after me, the share of the national debt for these 11 young people is $621,500. That I call extreme prejudice to their best interests.

Since the Obama administration the national debt projection has been cut dramatically and the Republican Party has been fighting him tooth and nail to let big business run unchecked.

Brother Deacon,

Let's look at where the candidates stand on the national debt. Normally debt is expected to be paid. In the past if you couldn't pay your debt you rotted in prison. Nowadays you go bankrupt and leave your creditor holding the bag. Debt projections are just another red herring. Our debt at this moment is HUGE! How are we going to pay it down???!!!

Where do potential Republican presidential candidates stand on the National Debt?

With our national debt now passing the $18 trillion mark, and rising at the rate of $40 to $50 billion per month, it is worth taking a look at where the putative Republican presidential candidates stand on the question. Do they see it as a major issue? Would they deal with it by cutting spending or raising taxes? Are they willing to take the political heat in order to reform the entitlements (Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) that are the real drivers of the debt? Or are they content to offer platitudes about cutting “fraud, waste, and abuse”?

Ted Cruz: Senator Cruz has been an unwavering fiscal hawk, arguing that we must “cut federal spending as much and as quickly as possible.” He has backed a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution, saying, “We need to pass a strong balanced-budget amendment. We need to stop bankrupting our country. Right now our kids and grandkids are inheriting a country where our national debt is larger than the size of our entire economy. . . . If we keep on this road, they will spend their entire lives, not to meet the needs of the future, not to meet the needs of their priorities, but instead, just working to pay off the debts that their deadbeat parents and grandparents stuck them with.” Cruz supports personal accounts for Social Security and raising the eligibility age; for Medicare, he would also increase the eligibility age, and offer premium support.

Yes, my Brother looks like they want to pay for WARS and take from the poor and the middle class and not from the rich transnational corporations that are home based here in the u.s. Or the top three% that holes over 45% of all the wealth in this country.

Thus, they are playing the game of Robin Hood in reverse, take from the poor and give it to the rich.

For anyone hoping that the next president will get serious about reducing the size and cost of government, the early days of the campaign have been disappointing, to say the least. The Democrats, of course, have been campaigning as if Greece were a model rather than a warning. But what else can one expect from a party that has moved to the left of Barack Obama? The real disappointment has come from Republicans who seem intent on returning to the big-spending ways of the George W. Bush administration.

Start with the candidate of the moment, Donald Trump. Trump has made it clear that government spending in his administration would be, as The Donald would say, “yuuuge!” Trump’s answer to just about any problem facing the country is for the federal government to spend more money, which would be just fine because he would be the one spending it, and he knows how to do it right. For example, in the wake of the McCain “war hero” dustup, Trump penned an op-ed for USA Today promising to fix the problems with the VA hospitals. His solution: “I will build the finest and most modern veterans’ hospitals in the world.” Where would the money come from to build more hospitals? Trump doesn’t say. Trump opposes any cuts to Social Security and Medicare — and Medicaid, for that matter. In April, at the New Hampshire Republican Leadership Summit, Trump criticized his fellow Republicans for proposing reforms of the entitlement programs that are bankrupting the country: “Every Republican wants to do a big number on Social Security, they want to do it on Medicare, they want to do it on Medicaid. And we can’t do that.” Medicare and Social Security alone face more than $69.1 trillion in unfunded liabilities, but Trump insists that the programs can be saved without cuts. “All these other people want to cut the hell out of it,” Trump said of Social Security. “I’m not going to cut it at all. I’m going to bring money in, and we’re going to save it.”

Trump Once Proposed the Biggest Tax Hike Ever

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trum...

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 9:07AM
Steve Williams
Brother Steve,

Thank you for this link. Take a look at the first paragraph: Donald Trump takes a lot of flak for failing to offer specific policy proposals, but there was a time when he offered a very specific tax plan -- one that raised taxes on the wealthy so much it might have made Bernie Sanders blush.

I would like to highlight his sentence: "one that raised taxes on the wealthy so much it might have made Bernie Sanders blush."

I have asked you many times, what do you have in common with the wealthy?

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 9:55AM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
Brother Deacon,

What I have in common with the wealthy is we're all American citizens. What do you think of a flat rate tax like Rand Paul has proposed, that taxes everyone equally?

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 10:39AM
Steve Williams
Brother Steve,

Why should everyone be tax at the same rate when we all don't make equally the same money? The burden of the taxes will fall on the poor and the middle classes the hardest, while the rich and corporations get a tax break from the taxes they paid back when the country was considered number 1 and in the world and the middle class was strong.

I think that everyone should continue to be taxed according to their income. I also think that the cap should be raised to how much money you make then you don't paid taxes.

So, why should everyone be taxed at the same rate?

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 3:49PM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
Brother Deacon,

The same reason that Yah instituted a flat rate.

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 4:51PM
Steve Williams
Brother Steve,

We are talking about running the government of The United States of America.

Now back to my question: So, why should everyone be taxed at the same rate when we all are not equally bless in income?

Steve, you are giving me the impression that you really want to run from that question. if not, answer that question.

Sunday, August 9th 2015 at 6:26PM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
Brother Deacon, you like to talk about the middle class. It's the middle class that's hit hardest by taxes

Now if there was a flat tax imposed on the people, then that would in FACT be a tax cut for corporations and rich
And then is want the libertarian party and the Republican Party wants. A flat tax would not address the problem of the national debt.

That is right!!! Obama did have to clean up the worst recession since the Great Depression and since that happened the Unemployment Rate & Trends is down to 5.3% from 10.% during the BUSH years. Do you want to go back to that Brother Steve??

Friday, August 14th 2015 at 9:08AM
Dea. Ron Gray Sr.
Oh by the way Brother Steve, at this point The United States under the Obama administration is celebrating 64 months of job growth despite the republicans efforts to stop his lead at every turn.

This is a win for the American lower and middle class. Why should any libertarian/ republican be against Americans getting jobs, paying, taxes and living the American Dream.

The "bank" bailout (a misnomer, since other agencies were bailed out as well) was begun under Bush's Treasury Secretary Paulson and the last months of the Bush/Cheney administration, with the help of Bush-appointed Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

President-Elect Baraaka Hussein Obama was able to distribute much of the $700 billion until regulations for its use could be enacted by the Democratically-controlled Congress.
