There are so many problems in the world; in the news and within our Black communities. I was about to write another post of this nature, but something inside said "no." It's like my brain shifted into self-preservation mode, and re-routed my thoughts to my first love... music. The post I planned to write is therefore on hold because I couldn't 'fight the funk!'
This goes out to all my people who used to rock the afro hairstyle (and those who still do); flair leg pants, hot pants, platform shoes, jheri curls, genie-in-the-bottle sized pants and any other style from the 70s and 80s. This is for my people who used to go to the club simply to have a good time and get their party-on. This is for my people who dressed nice, dressed fly, and WORKED at looking like somebody when they went to the club or a concert (you know how we used to roll). This is for the generation that could go to the club, and not have to worry about getting caught up in a shoot-out. The only thing a brother had to worry about back then was some other brother's right hook. The only nuisance was that jive brother hangin' out front trying to hustle money to get IN the club. Yeah we had our own drama and issues, but when it came to partying... all we wanted to do was show-off our clothes, show-off our dance moves and show-off whoever we were rockin' with at the moment! We were of so full ourselves, and no one could tell us a (cussword) thing! Well... these people are now our kids and grandkids.
I took all the craziness of that era into the U.S. Navy with me, and matters only got worse. My thing was come into port; party like there was no tomorrow; chase anything that moved, and carry my butt back out to sea. It was a simple as that! This was my attitude during most of my 20s, and I'm sure all the military veterans on here know what I'm talkin' 'bout! We STAYED in trouble, and we didn't need no internet, Facebook or hook-up.com to do it! Let's just say we had good verbal communication skills, and leave it there (but y'all know we did enough dirt to plant a tree back then). Something good happened in the midst of all the running and partying though... and I'm married to her.
So let's forget our about our problems; work and the troubles of the world (at least for a little while). Let's travel back to a time when our biggest problems were deciding where we wanted to hang out for the evening; which outfit to wear to the concert or the club... to a time when our biggest problem was coming up with an excuse to cancel a date with one person so we could hook-up with another.. Wait a minute... somebody, somewhere is doing all that stuff right now! I'm done. Just rock the music, and enjoy!
Peace
