Counselor, Behavioral Health Case Manager (6909) |
The Behavioral Health Case Manager (BHCM) serves as the crisis interventionist, behavioral health consultant, and referral coordinator for Counseling Services at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). In their role as a crisis interventionist, the BHCM will facilitate the vast majority of walk-in appointments, providing risk assessment, and stabilization services. The BHCM will lead the process of determining whether or not student's presentation is within the scope of Counseling Services, or warrants referral. If a referral is needed, he or she will work with local community mental health and medical agencies/practices for these cases. Additionally, the Behavioral Health Case Manager will serve as point of contact for University Housing, Dean of Students, and Student Conduct for post-screening brief intervention and referrals for students found in violation of the University's substance abuse policy, with emphasis on individuals suspected of experiencing a substance use disorder.
SIUE’s Counseling Services actively promotes the personal, social, emotional, and cognitive growth of our students. This service is provided through individual counseling, counseling groups, healthy living workshops, consultation, and referral. Our staff works closely with students, faculty members, student affairs administrators, public safety officers, health care services providers, housing staff, and parents of SIUE students. Special attention is paid to the ongoing issues affecting college students today, specifically, sexual assault and substance use awareness and prevention, along with the continued awareness of social and cultural differences among the SIUE community.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
-Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, social work, counseling/clinical psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
-Licensed (or licensed eligible) in the State of Illinois.
-Trained and has knowledge of DSM-5 classifications, therapeutic orientations, and treatment modalities.
-Knowledge of integrated health systems, including role of behavioral health consultation in primary care, and insight on ways in which substance use can mimic other symptomatology.
-Knowledge of and [preferable] experience with brief interventions (i.e., solution focused therapy, SBIRT).
-Ability to administer batteries of psychological assessments with appropriate follow-up reports.
-Must possess strong crisis intervention skills (i.e., rapport building, stabilization, brief biopsychosocial assessment, suicidality screening).
-Ability to work cooperatively as a clinical team member with quality written and oral communication skills.
-Professional flexibility as well as an enthusiastic and outgoing professional demeanor.
