Job Description
Director of Institutional Grants
Bryn Mawr College is accepting applications for a Director of Institutional Grants.
Bryn Mawr is a private liberal arts institution located approximately 11 miles west of Philadelphia, PA., and serves a population of 1,800 students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College has a long tradition of educational excellence offering a dynamic and challenging work environment with many opportunities for professional growth. We are easily reached by public transportation and most major highways.

The Director of Institutional Grants will lead research, proposal development and stewardship of institutional applications to foundations, government agencies and corporations and will oversee effective and timely implementation of institutional grants. The Director is a member of the Provost’s staff reporting directly to the Provost while also maintaining a close affiliation with the Development Office to ensure that grants work is integrated with the College’s overall fundraising strategy.
Qualifications & Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements strategies for securing funding from foundation, government and corporate funders in support of the academic mission of Bryn Mawr’s Undergraduate College, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research.
Through regular meetings with the President, Provost, other administrators and faculty members, is sufficiently well informed about new and ongoing programs to match potential funding sources with areas of need.
Researches institutional funding opportunities and assesses alignment of institutional priorities and needs with potential funders.
Maintains professional contacts with funders and remains current with national and regional trends and priorities in grant making and higher education.
Represents the College in meetings with funders together with the President, Provost or other administrators or faculty members; arranges such visits and ensures appropriate follow-up activity.
Develops and writes proposals that advance institutional priorities, working in collaboration with key administrators and faculty to articulate strategies, frame compelling arguments and gather relevant data and information to support grant applications.
Develops budgets for grant applications and assesses short-and long-term financial implications of institutional grant activities.
Oversees timely implementation of institutional grants and compliance with grant terms and conditions, in collaboration with project directors, key administrators, the Controller’s Office and relevant faculty and staff.
Monitors grants budgets and prepares required reports for institutional grants to ensure accurate and timely reporting of grant activity and finances.
Composes acknowledgment letters and other grant-related correspondence for President, Provost and other key administrators and faculty.
Assists and advises faculty in the preparation of applications to private foundations for fellowships and research funding and works with the Office of Sponsored Research to coordinate the submission of such applications and ensure compliance with post-award reporting requirements.
Collaborates with the Office of Sponsored Research for regular meetings to share information about pending grant applications, faculty research that may be of interest to both offices, compliance and other issues of mutual interest.
Participates in Development Office monthly staff meetings and serves on the Development Office Management Team and Campaign Management Team (during campaigns) to stay well-informed about the College’s overall fundraising strategies and activities.
Supervises work of the Associate Director of Institutional Grants.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to write persuasively and fluently in a number of technical areas, including the sciences, finance, academic and administrative planning, as well as general academic areas such as arts, humanities and social sciences.
Comfortable with computer and internet functions and willing to expand skills and learn new software to enhance job efficiency.
Analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with faculty, staff, students and external organizations are essential.
Ability to work independently; balance multiple tasks; work under deadlines and prioritize workload.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or higher degree desired.
A minimum of five years’ experience in development, grant-seeking and grant-writing with at least three years of relevant experience in higher education. Knowledge of budget development or fiscal operations preferred. Some experience working in the area of Sponsored Research is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft, Financial Edge or Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
