About the Center
The Center for NYC Neighborhoods (“the Center”) promotes and protects affordable homeownership in New York so that middle- and working-class families are able to build strong, thriving communities. Established by public and private partners, the Center meets the diverse needs of homeowners throughout New York State by offering free, high-quality housing services. The Center’s current projects support our policy goals and help to keep homeownership affordable by responding to the ongoing effects of the foreclosure crisis, the rising cost of homeownership, predatory scams, rising sea levels, and more extreme weather.
The intern reports to the Chief Financial Officer and assists other Center staff as directed. The intern will focus approximately six months of work on researching the conditions surrounding commercial rent trends for small businesses in NYC. The key deliverable of this research will be a white paper outlining the commercial rent challenges confronting small businesses and to define the key metrics that delineate these challenges.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Independently source, collect, and organize data that bears on the NYC commercial rent landscape for small businesses.
Construct a scalable database of relevant information for use in future iterations of research.
Deliver periodic reports on progress to Center leadership.
Within six months, combine data and findings into a white paper for use by the Center in forming a programmatic response.
The Program Research Intern is a temporary, part-time position, anticipated to require 20 hours per week for approximately 6 months. The Intern will be paid $25 per hour.

Qualifications & Requirements
Skills & Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a current or recent Master Graduate or PhD student within the field of economics, business, or public administration.
Must have a clearly demonstrated interest in public policy and empirical analysis.
Excellent written communication skills
Will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
Will have experience building databases
