The Hartford Public Schools is a pleased to announce the search for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee our Office of Finance & Budget Operations, who has demonstrated experience in implementing new financial management information systems for an organization of significant size. Extensive (over 10 years) relevant work experience, and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting, taxation, and financial management, as well as, a bachelor’s degree in finance or related area, and a School Business Administrator certification (085) or eligibility to apply for and attain certification is required.
Our new CFO will have a deep understanding of the urban school system environment and a laser focused commitment to improving student achievement. Working directly with the Superintendent, the CFO will develop strategic projects and planning relevant to enrollment growth, data analysis, research and evaluation, and strategic leadership. The selected candidate will passionately believe that all students can achieve at high levels and demonstrate cultural competence with a deep understanding of, and empathy for, issues facing urban families. The CFO will have a service orientation toward supporting schools, the Superintendent, and the City of Hartford, and will work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all levels, including district personnel, students, families, communities, and advocacy groups.
The ideal candidate thrives in an achievement-oriented and fast-paced environment, while skillfully navigating existing political structures and systems. He/she will use their strong execution and project management skills to take initiative and solve problems. The CFO will be an articulate and persuasive communicator, both orally and in writing, and have excellent interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, which are vital to success in this role. He/she will be a born leader skilled at re-envisioning, building, and managing a team, while also providing guidance, direction, and feedback for growth. The CFO will have the ability to train, supervise, and evaluate staff from different cultural backgrounds and skill sets, and also be able to build consensus among peer professionals unfamiliar with financial management. The CFO will lead, inspire, and move other adults to action to achieve the ambitious goals of the district.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or related area; advanced degree preferred; CPA preferred; FFMC preferred
