will be responsible for providing underwriting and due diligence services
associated with senior commercial mortgage loans and preferred equity
transactions for institutional clients. Real estate transactions will be
primarily bridge and construction loans on transitional assets. Under the
direction of the Senior Underwriter, the Underwriter will be responsible for
compiling DD checklist, reviewing property related documents including leases,
reviewing third-party reports, preparing cash flow models and preparing a
comprehensive asset summary. While reporting to the Senior Underwriter, the
Underwriter should be capable of independently completing a full underwriting
assignment with minimal guidance.
The UW should have experience with value-add real estate projects and construction projects. Additionally, the Underwriter should possess strong communication and problem-solving skills as there is a focus on understanding the business plan for the project and the property’s place in the market. Where diligence varies from the initial underwriting or investment thesis, the UW will be proactive in working with the Senior Underwriter and client’s deal team to highlight variances and resolve issues.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required. Minimum two years experience in analysis of commercial real estate properties, including duties such as inspecting property, reviewing financial statements, and underwriting loan transactions. Appraisal experience is desirable for property valuation and market analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years experience in commercial real estate underwriting, lending, origination or asset management.
