Assistant Professor - Agricultural Engineering (2 Positions)
Appointment: 75% Teaching, 20% Research & 5% Extension

The Department of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff invites applications for two 12-month tenure track faculty positions as Assistant Professor for Agricultural Engineering to start in January 2020. Applicants must be certified professional engineers who have experience and qualifications to be able to facilitate and coordinate activities required for ABET accreditation of the agricultural engineering program.

The successful candidates will teach a variety of courses in power and machinery, agricultural production systems, and soil and water systems at the undergraduate level. They should have a thorough and broad understanding of modern equipment used in the construction, agricultural and energy industries.

For the power and machinery position, the successful candidate should be able to challenge students’ creative minds to develop and improve the next generation of agricultural equipment, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, power trains, hydraulics and agricultural mechanics.

For the Agricultural Production Systems and Soil and Water Systems position, the successful candidate will focus on two aspects: Animal and plant production, including structural development and analysis and environmental control and air quality issues associated with housed animals and plants, design and evaluation of conservation systems, and how to mitigate and improve the environmental impacts of production and agriculture.

The successful candidates will also be expected to participate in curriculum development, student advisement, internship supervision, industry collaboration, student recruitment, assessment, and the development and delivery of industry training programs. Expectations also include engagement in scholarship, grant writing, campus governance and other service.

The successful applicants must have a strong interest in higher education and be enthusiastic about creating an educational environment that is innovative and inspiring to students in the classroom and in the field.

THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is an 1890 Land-Grant institution with approximately 2,600 students. The University offers undergraduate degrees in more than 40 majors in the schools of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences; Business and Management; Education; and Arts and Sciences. The campus is located in Pine Bluff, population 49,083. Pine Bluff is 42 miles south of Little Rock.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Agriculture is in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences. The Department offers a new Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Engineering, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Sciences (Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, and Agronomy), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Regulatory Science (Agriculture, Environmental Biology, Industrial Health and Safety), and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Engineering Technology or closely related discipline. Three or more years of teaching and curriculum development experience at the college level in the areas of agricultural power and machines, agricultural production systems, and soil and water systems. Five or more years of professional experience in the agricultural or construction equipment industry. Demonstrated ability in developing industry partnerships in the agricultural or construction equipment industry and/or the ability to facilitate procurement of resources in an academic environment.

SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience.
