The Landscape Architecture Program in the School of Architecture at Clemson University seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 15, 2020. Candidates interested in contributing to the profession of landscape architecture through teaching, research, and service within an interdisciplinary work environment are encouraged to apply.

Clemson University Landscape Architecture offers two LAAB accredited degrees (BLA and MLA). Both programs maintain a strong focus on design. Full-time faculty members in Landscape Architecture typically teach one design studio and a 3-credit course within the BLA and/or MLA program each semester. Individuals with experience teaching studios and courses related to one or more of the three areas of expertise listed above are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to advise graduate students and participate in the College’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. program as well as contribute to several school-wide certificate programs.

Clemson University Landscape Architecture is one of four Programs in the School of Architecture including architecture, resilient urban design, and historic preservation. The School of Architecture is a part of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities (CAAH) and itself encompasses nine other Departments. The Landscape Architecture Program is located in Lee III, a 55,000 sf LEED Gold, AIA National Honor Award-winning facility designed by Clemson alumus Thomas Phifer. The Landscape Architecture faculty and students participate in the trademarked Fluid Campus that includes three off-campus academic centers for advanced study and research in Charleston, SC; Genoa, Italy; and Barcelona, Spain. Design Intelligence Quarterly ranked Clemson’s BLA program in the top 20 “most admired” programs overall and Clemson’s Graduate Architecture program in the top 25 “most admired” programs overall, and the top 10 among programs at public universities in its 2018-19 rankings.

Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants should hold, at a minimum, a professional degree in landscape architecture, with a master’s degree in landscape architecture or closely related discipline. Professional license and/or PhD are preferred. Applicants with previous teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to secure external funding to support research/creative activity are also desirable. Individuals who bring diverse perspectives to our faculty are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Landscape ecology, natural systems, climate change, and resiliency

• Sustainable and energy efficient landscape construction, materials, and implementation

• Digital landscape modelling, visualization, communication, and AI/VR

Successful candidates are expected to teach core courses in the BLA and MLA curricula, develop and implement a successful program of research and scholarship, and provide service to the university, program, profession, and community. Clemson University is a Carnegie Mellon Research I University and therefore candidates are expected to demonstrate a capacity for high performance in research/scholarship/creative activity.
