Sales Representative

Quality assurance and product safety are core business principles at Nestlé and the Nestlé Quality Assurance Center (NQAC) is specifically responsible for ensuring that all Nestlé products are safe and that the highest product safety is delivered to Nestlé’s customers. NQAC’s world class microbiological and food chemistry laboratories provide comprehensive testing services to all Nestlé factories, suppliers, and co-manufacturers in North America in order to ensure this quality assurance and product safety mission is continuously reached.


The Sales Representative is responsible for actively seeking new business opportunities and growing our current customer portfolio. The role will identify, pursue, close, manage, and ultimately increase NQAC customer base to meet the business objectives for the facility. This requires a highly energetic individual with impeccable drive who possesses a proven history in successful development and management of sales initiatives. The Sales Representative serves as an integral team player that is responsible for conveying and maintaining a positive image to all internal and external contacts.


Primary Responsibilities

The Sales Representative is responsible for building sales capabilities throughout the Customer Service team through maturation of methodologies, training, and coaching. The Sales Representative demonstrates the highest level of internal/external customer service skills and team-orientation while also exhibiting a sound understanding of NQAC Dublin analytical testing capabilities and service offerings, customer base, and sample submission & processing requirements. This person will be required to successfully collaborate with internal finance and laboratories in order to align sales strategy with financial performance and analytical portfolio.


• Presents ideas effectively, actively listens and works across functional boundaries with the ability to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers.
• Attend events and interact with customers to further understand the problems and challenges we can solve for them.
• Develop new business opportunities through both cold call and initiated leads for services offered by the company.
• Meet with key/potential customers to maintain relationships, negotiating and closing deals.
• Prepare and communicate sales implementation plan throughout the facility, priorities for rollout and scope.
• Delivers technical sales presentations to existing and prospective customers.

Business Results
• Achievement of increasing NQAC business (with management) by creating quarterly and annual sales forecast to deliver over-budget result, align with marketing to forecast upcoming customer needs and contribute to marketing strategy.
• Research and optimize new/existing systems, methods, processes, and provide NQAC with a competitive advantage with our competitors to become world class.
• Analyze and interpret what behaviors and patterns make our customers successful and more likely to be retained by the company.
• Monitor and maintain sales activities through defined measures and adherence to implementation plans that detail their effectiveness.

• Trains/coaches other employees as instructed and/or required for any of the functions listed above to help them be more efficient and effective. Must be able to demonstrate how to perform the job themselves while training.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent required with 2-3 years minimum food safety sales preferred or technical sales experience. Similar industry sales experience preferred.
• Strong analytical skills (including mastery of Microsoft Excel) and experience with reporting and data analysis preferred.
• A drive for selling, finding unique selling points, and ability to educate in ways that our customers will understand required.
• Functional capacity as a team builder and team participant required.
• Proficient in sales systems and integrating those systems with other technologies, with a desire to improve processes required.
• General knowledge of food safety requirements and corresponding regulations (FSMA) is an advantage to provide requested services to the customer.
• Above average decision-making, communication & interpersonal skills required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential to help build and maintain positive professional relationships with both internal and external customers.  Must be able to maintain professional poise and demeanor.
• Competence in software literacy, including LIMS (preferred) and Microsoft Office.
• Use of online prospecting software and/or website.
• Basic understanding of the business-to-business cycle.

• Cold calling experience lasting one full year or more preferred.
• Exposure to food processing or Quality Assurance is beneficial to identify the concerns and challenges of the customer.
• Contact list or network of food safety related or quality assurance contacts preferred.
• Experience working in/with an analytical laboratory is preferred.


• Can work in-group or alone; oriented towards the good of the whole.
• Strong attention to detail, balances, analyzes and takes appropriate action.
• High stress-tolerance and ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition required, such as time pressure or job ambiguity.
