The Division of Physical Sciences Student Success Center (The Center) is intended to foster an inclusive, diverse, supportive environment for all undergraduate and graduate students in our 3 large departments. Goals of the Center include development of programs and initiatives that promote the academic success of all Division of Physical Sciences (DPS) students, including professional development programs and support (including major emphasis on industrial relationships for internships and employment), summer programs, retention programs, mentoring programs, student organization support, and more. The Center aims to develop these goals in close collaboration with faculty, and industry partners to answer the much-needed demand of our significant student population.

Under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Operations, the Student Success Center Program Coordinator provides advising, programming, student and operational support to the Center. Takes a lead role in creating and sustaining a welcoming climate at the Center. Develop and coordinate a suite of programs to enhance physical sciences students' academic and professional development. Serves as front line customer service representative in the Center by coordinating walk-in traffic, managing email and phone correspondence, and coordinating information and referral resources.

Independently analyzes the needs of students and campus community members who utilize the Center, and ensures that the Center responds to those needs. The program coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement innovative programs, workshops, events, and in-center support services designed to help physical sciences students thrive at UC San Diego. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will develop program goals, implementation and evaluation plans, and prepare periodic reports of activities.

Must be available to work occasional overtime during evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements
Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, preferably in an advising or service capacity. Strong knowledge of the theories and practice of academic counseling, learning, human and career development.
Experience assisting in planning, organizing and coordinating educational programs and events. Experience scheduling appointments, managing calendars, organizational skills. Proven experience in planning, preparing, and coordinating logistics for meetings.
Proven skill and experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of educational, cultural, and social programs in a higher education environment that reflect the needs of a diverse student population.
Proven skill using effective pedagogical strategies for designing, planning, and implementing academic support programs for underrepresented, multicultural and other non-traditional college students.
Demonstrated knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement.
Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.
Thorough knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in using administrative software packages and tools including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) Outlook, Adobe, internet browsers and databases.
