The Legal Department supports the vision and values of Wells Fargo by providing expert, creative, cost-effective, and timely advice and services to all Wells Fargo businesses and support functions. The Enterprise Functions Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department provides legal advice and support to companies and businesses throughout the Wells Fargo & Company global enterprise. Our scope of responsibility includes effective legal and regulatory advice to Wells Fargo Technology (WFT), which provides technology products, services and enterprise governance in support of Wells Fargo's customers, business partners and team members, as well as the Business Continuity and Resiliency (BCR) organization, which works with WFT to ensure technology resiliency. BCR is responsible for defining, governing, executing, and maturing the Enterprise Business Continuity Program (EBCP), operational resiliency strategy for Wells Fargo's critical assets (people, buildings, utilities, technologies, and business operations), and continuing to integrate and strengthen our corporate security infrastructure.

This experienced technology attorney will provide dedicated full-time service and support to WFT infrastructure, resiliency and remediation organizations. This role will include frequent interface and collaboration with Legal counterparts in Technology, Corporate Properties Group, Security, Corporate Risk, Regulatory Relations, BCR, Chief Operating Officer organization, and Wells Fargo lines of business.

The successful candidate will:
Work with and advise incident managers, business continuity and disaster recovery teams, corporate communications, IT professionals, technologists, risk and control management, and privacy and data security professionals on compliance with U.S. federal, state, and global laws related to technology infrastructure, technology remediation, and global and enterprise resiliency and recovery, including pandemic planning.
Provide advice related to team member mobility, BYOD, telecom, virtual desktop infrastructure, data center resiliency, and colocation strategies
Provide advice related to third-party service providers and their resiliency obligations
Provide legal advice and support for regulatory supervisory activities and related communications with regulators and examiners
Provide strategic thought leadership for business continuity, resiliency, and disaster recovery
Be skilled with gathering information in a fast-paced business environment, understanding business needs and goals, detecting legal issues and obstacles, identifying legal solutions and alternatives, and succinctly and competently counseling and communicating with technology professionals and managers regarding legal risks, solutions, and alternatives

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney; or 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney and 2+ years of legal-related experience in one or a combination of the following areas: risk, compliance, contracts, government, regulatory, financial services, or technology
  • Active State Bar membership

  • Ability to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal matters
  • Extensive experience conducting research and providing counsel and guidance regarding complex legal issues
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration
  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team

Other Desired Qualifications

• Significant expertise in legal, regulatory, and compliance issues relating to technology infrastructure,  including deep knowledge of FFIEC IT handbooks and other regulatory risk management guidance related to oversight and risk management of third-party technology service providers and consultants, telecom, data centers, technology licensing, privacy, big data and information security laws. 
• Prior experience in effective engagement with technology leaders, senior management, risk, compliance and audit professionals, and external regulators.
• Prior experience advising technology professionals in the implementation of laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance related to technology
• Prior experience providing legal support or representation to clients in the technology industry, addressing issues such as product development, software licensing, software maintenance and support, regulatory compliance, or in the acquisition, deployment, and use of technology, IP, or big data
• Ability to evaluate impacts based on changes in laws or regulations
• Experience developing and executing appropriate solutions to complex problems
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills

• Prior in-house experience at a large financial firm or experience at a bank regulatory agency is preferred, but law firm experience also will be given consideration
• Candidates must be able to assume responsibility quickly and have the ability to work in a complex environment requiring a high degree of collaboration and across multiple jurisdictions
• The right candidate will also be capable of providing direction, guidance, training and resources to paralegals and/or applicable/relevant support staff
