Department Specific Functions:

The Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Project Manager Research Support. The Project Manager, Research Support will support the divisionís operations, sponsored programs, and research activities. This position requires expertise in both project management and grants management, with a commitment to continual improvement in process. The PM will perform their duties across the divisionís portfolio of federal and industry funded studies, providing guidance on pre and post award matters including but not limited to grant budgeting, personnel effort allocation, subaward process, service and consulting agreements, monitoring and controlling expenditures and grant closeout. The PM will also assist with tracking progress toward research milestones and divisional goals. The ideal candidate should be able to work closely and effectively with all levels of leadersh ip, staff and clinicians in addition to all resources within the institution. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversight of research portfolio, ensuring that scope, budget and quality are meeting expectations
Provide guidance and leadership in applying to various funding mechanisms, with knowledge of OMB Circulars, Federal Agency policies (primarily NIH)
Develop complex grant budgets, implement subawards, assist in the development and implementation of material and data use agreements, maintain consultant and service contracts
Attend regular status meetings with principal investigators and the study team, to stay informed of relevant study developments and assist in overcoming obstacles as they arise
Maintain working knowledge of university financial systems and grant e-submission systems
Develop and maintain personal and team tools to facilitate timely completion of milestones
Assist in performing clinical study budget feasibility, sponsor negotiations, liaising with service centers, internal and external invoice reconciliation
Track federal grant expenditures and industry sponsored clinical trials revenues and expenses
Manage the divisionís financial and material resources to ensure successful completion of research goals and objectives
Maintain database of grant deliverables and reporting requirements
Meet regularly with principal investigator(s) and other team leaders to review budgetary and contractual needs, expenditure trends and overall project progress
Detect and help solve logistical, financial and grant related problems as they arise
Act as liaison between the Neuromuscular Division and other departments/centers/institutes as necessary for grant and contract administration
Work closely with PI and central offices in performing activities associated with grant setup and close-out (i.e., requesting award accounts, delivering revised budgets, overseeing the payment of subrecipient invoices, carryover and no-cost extension requests, final financial reports, etc.)
Provide timely financial reporting to the PI(s) and UM Office of Research Administration (ORA)
May attend ORA and ORC administrative meetings on behalf of the division

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelorís degree required (in business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred).
Five or more years of relevant grants management experience.
Research consortium management experience preferred.
Project management skills, PMP� certification desired.
Demonstrates excellent critical analysis and problem-solving skills.
Strong English verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as on a team.
Willing to work in a highly collaborative environment, on-site and remotely.
Strong quantitative skills and ability to prepare and interpret financial reports.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
