Description:
The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) has a job opening for a seasoned Licensing Associate to work at the Medical Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The mission of the Office of Technology Transfer is to serve the University and its faculty by commercializing technologies developed within the university system to benefit the public. The Senior Licensing Associate will: independently assess invention disclosures from faculty for commercial potential, including patentability and, if not patentable, determination of alternative pathways for protection and licensing; provide feedback to faculty on the commercial potential of their innovations; independently manage an ongoing portfolio of technologies including, pre-disclosure, disclosed innovations, provisional, full and published patent applications, copyrightable technology; negotiate licenses and options; provide mentorship and leadership by example to all other licensing professionals on the team.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Independently assess invention disclosures from faculty for patentability or other pathways to commercialization and provide feedback to faculty regarding patent or other commercialization processes.
Independently manages a portfolio of technologies including maintaining effective working relationships with inventors, negotiating various agreements including licenses or options, manages ongoing relationships with licensees, and interfaces with external patent firms.
Provides mentorship and leadership by example to all other licensing professionals on the team.
Works toward quarterly and annual deal closure metrics as an individual and as a team.
Reports progress towards goals on a weekly basis.
Works with IP law firms to patent only commercially viable technologies, ensures only the highest quality of patent applications are made, and that the costs are controlled to ensure University funds are well spent.
Manages transactions and communications for every technology into the technology tracking database in a timely and accurate manner.
Detailed tracking and knowledge of every technology related expense and revenue, as well as reporting obligations, both past and future, in the respective technology portfolio.
Works from Master Agreement Templates to the greatest extent possible.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelorís Degree in life sciences is required. Masterís or Ph.D. degree in life sciences highly preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in technology transfer or technology development

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Demonstrated capability in product development from the invention disclosure patenting, marketing to licensing.
Work to simplify the complex process of tech transfer.
Must be driven by business needs, both external and internal.
Evidence of an excellent knowledge of the business of Tech Transfer.
Current knowledge of the market.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.
