How will you make an impact?

The Senior Manager Business Development and Strategy is responsible for identifying, evaluating and closing new business opportunities which shape the future of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Clinical Diagnostics Division. These initiatives will add innovative products and critical capabilities to our portfolio, and encompass licensing and acquisition (including M&A) as well as commercial partnerships. The job holder will also contribute to the Strategic Planning process and strategy deployment. What will you do?

  • Driving growth through in-licensing, acquisition or commercial partnerships
  • Evaluation of new business opportunities in intensive care diagnostics, infectious disease testing, women’s health and novel fields of business
  • Strategic rationale and business case development with cross-functional teams
  • Comprehensive P&L analysis of opportunities including segment, market share, revenue, cost and investment plus quantitative analysis of synergies
  • Present business cases and recommendations to senior and executive management
  • Negotiation of commercial terms and contracting (collaborating with legal teams)
  • Contribute to the divisional strategic planning process and strategy deployment
  • Identify and evaluate M&A opportunities
  • Continuously improve processes and set a higher standard

How will you get here?

  • B.S. degree in Scientific Field required, Master or PhD level preferred
  • MBA advantageous and preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • You have acquired strong commercial skills in prior sales, business development or key account management roles (3 years min.)
  • Your professional background in the IVD or a related industry (Medical Devices, Pharma or Biotech) for 5 years allows you to understand technical matters, product development processes, regulatory frameworks, operations and supply chain
  • Experience in strategic planning, portfolio or product management roles is advantageous
  • A track record in opportunity and market assessment is required - you understand key performance indicators and their drivers, and have applied them successfully to assess opportunity attractiveness (IRR/ROI/NPV)
  • You can rely on your excellent relationship building skills, and are able to influence others without direct authority
  • Your profile is complemented by a strong project management background and advanced level skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • Must have the vision, drive, and interpersonal skills to succeed in a rapid growth environment
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and able to structure and rationalize complex decisions
  • Able to operate effectively to meet goals and timelines in multiple assignments and to lead major projects and initiatives
  • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively across a matrix organization and partner with management at all levels
  • Willingness to travel up to 20-30%, as required (and depending on location)
  • Position may require Covid-19 vaccination and/or routine testing, per client discretion. As a requirement to be onsite at Thermo Fisher Scientific this position requires vaccination status disclosure upon employment
