The Deputy Managing Director of Campaigns role acts as a partner to the Managing Director of Campaigns. With guidance from the Managing Director, this role will drive campaign strategies toward maximum impact and ensure campaigns are aligned with MoveOn’s overall goals and programmatic objectives. With a strong eye on people, process, and equity, this role will develop and manage equitable and inclusive internal systems, workflows and operations to ensure that the team is cohesive and functioning effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the Managing Director in translating and operationalizing the organization’s overall goals and objectives into campaign strategies that build power and momentum for MoveOn members.
Develop and manage team internal systems, including workflows and processes. Communicate key shifts and changes in responsibilities during rapid response moments.
Work closely with the Political and Federal Affairs Team and Campaign Directors to guide legislative strategy. Leverage legislative actions to develop multi-year campaigns and build power and momentum for members and the entire organization.
Partner with the Managing Director to improve strategic campaign planning and implementation and provide support for cross-team implementation.
Assists in drafting, testing, and production, as needed, working with campaigners to identify pieces of work to execute campaigns.
Measure campaign impacts, facilitate debrief sessions, create reports, and communicate wins and learnings across the organization.
Co-create the team’s annual budget.
Serve as the decision-maker in the absence of the Managing Director in coordination with the Chief of Program.
Participate in the Campaigns Team’s senior leadership huddle and regular meetings.
Signs off on larger campaign products.
May manage individual campaigners or a campaign lead.

Required skills and experience
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, preferably in a similar organization.
Minimum of 3 years of people and project management experience. Strong understanding of people and process, and experience developing effective team processes with strong people buy-in and engagement.
Strong experience and background in running long-term legislative campaigns.
Strong project management skills, including running complex projects with many moving parts.
Strong background in aligning team culture and building cohesive remote teams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to articulate complex concepts in clear ways.
Strong emotional literacy and high self-awareness.
Experience in progressive campaign work.
Reports to: Managing Director of Campaigns
Location: Position may be based anywhere in the contiguous United States. May require occasional travel.
Classification, Salary and Benefits: At MoveOn, we commit to equity in our compensation philosophy and practices. We are committed to equal pay for equal work. To counter systemic compensation issues in this country and pay inequality, we have a nonnegotiable compensation practice. We utilize benchmarking and peer organization data to ensure we provide competitive nonprofit compensation and benefits. The annual salary for this position is $123,000. In addition to the base salary, we offer a monthly home office subsidy. We also offer an internet and phone subsidy of $2,100 annually and a health and wellness subsidy of $900 annually. All of these cash benefits are added to your bimonthly paycheck. We offer strong medical, dental, and vision benefits, which are free to employees and children of employees (spouses or domestic partners can be added at a subsidized rate). We offer employer-paid premiums for life insurance; four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year, prorated for the period that you work; 18 weeks of paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster care placement of a child), 10 days accrued paid sick time prorated for the period that you work; paid family medical leave; and 8 staff holidays and 6 floating holidays. We contribute 5% to your 401(k) after six months of employment. We also offer a $1000 in professional development budget each year for each staff member.
