Job Description

ASU is the largest state university and has for the last 6 years in a row been recognized by US News and World Report as the most innovative university. The University Technology Office (UTO) is looking for dynamic individuals to join our Operations Center Service Team. The Data Center Facilities Manager will oversee the operation and maintenance of data centers and major communications rooms including but not limited to HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, fire suppression systems, control and monitoring systems, and disaster recovery. Collaborate with the engineers and networking teams to ensure efficiency of the systems and minimize downtime through redundancy and efficient real-time monitoring. Attend meetings, work sessions and training with support vendors and serves on committees. Looking for a proven technology manager with broad experience in people management/development with the drive and vision to take Data Center Operations to the next level. Oversee preventative maintenance and timely repairs, ensure the quality of vendor/contractor services, and guarantee compliance with safety protocols as appropriate. Educate others on how to properly troubleshoot hardware and other issues. Respond to emergency and outage conditions to lead recovery.

Essential Duties

Responsible for facilities including infrastructure planning and maintenance for Data Center, remote Data Centers, MDF/IDF rooms, and off-site storage areas, including environments, physical, security and safety
Act as the point of contact for projects as assigned by the IT Operations Center Director
Manage projects of limited scope
Prepare statement of work (SoW) for critical and non-critical facility operations jobs
Proactive in defect and repairs
Coordinate vendor activities including preventative maintenance
Work with support service vendors to resolve conflicts and issues.
Supervise work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, reviewing work, and ensuring quality standards
Maintain up-to-date documentation of systems and process
Provide graceful reaction to high-priority requests with little or no notice, while providing clear documentation and follow-through
Take responsibility for fostering culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms -- collaborating across our teams as well as participating in UTO/ASU events and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field AND six (6) years experience providing information technology services, which includes one (1) year of project and/or lead experience; OR, Ten (10) years experience providing information technology services, which includes one (1) year of project and/or lead experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Certificate from recognized programs that indicate mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six months of experience.

Desired Qualifications

3+ years of experience working in a large-scale data center or with equivalent IT infrastructure which included the overseeing of HVAC, UPS, Fire Suppression Systems, Generators, and their control systems
Experience with one or more applications for Data Center infrastructure management for Data Center and Comm Room design such as CAD, Visio, or DCIM software
Experience analyzing and planning for Data Center and communication room redundant power requirements
Experience in project management and project management software (JIRA)
Experience in office software applications especially documentation software
Experience with vendor relationships and third-party service delivery
Experience overseeing a budget in a fluid cost center
Experience with documenting processes and designing infrastructure layouts
Technical understanding of data center operations and infrastructure.
Knowledge of Data Center HVAC, CRAC, cooling technologies.
Knowledge of Data Center power, UPS, generator operations, etc.
Knowledge of Data Center fire suppression systems (FM200,HFC125, etc.).
Advanced knowledge of Data Center design and construction.
Knowledge of Data Center certification and design concepts.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN, Structured Cabling, Ethernet and Fiber Cabling.
Knowledge of telecommunications Systems and emerging technology trends.
Knowledge of Data Center best practice and Industry Standard Methodology.
Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution's sustainability programs.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Skill in effectively managing, supervising and evaluating assigned staff.
Ability to prioritize and budget own time and the time of direct reports.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking
Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds
Regularly required to work in cramped and enclosed areas and exposure to variations in temperature when deploying equipment
Regular review of completed tasks
