Job Description
Full-Time Research Associate (Remote Position)
FULL-TIME RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (REMOTE POSITION)

Who we are
Rockman et al Cooperative (REA) is a dynamic research, evaluation, and consulting company helping to address critical issues in formal and informal education across the U.S. We work on a wide range of projects supported by the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Endowment for the Arts, and other federal and state agencies, as well as by foundations and organizations in the private sector. We conduct formative and summative studies of educational innovations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and ELA (English Language Acquisition) instruction and assessment, teacher professional development, digital media and technology-based curriculum, after school programs, museum outreach programs and exhibits, public radio and television programs, children’s websites, makerspaces and libraries, public understanding of science, and public policies. We also conduct custom market research and usability testing. To find out more about our work, visit www.rockman.com.

REA is incorporated as an employee-owned company. Our employees have the opportunity to join the cooperative as Member-Owners and share in the responsibilities and rewards of ownership, including patronage accounts and the ability to run for a seat on the board of directors. The company has a fairly traditional management structure, but operates as much as possible with transparency and with input from employees and members. REA operates remotely from home offices across the United States. Administrative and technology support, computers, and home office stipends are provided to support staff in their work.

At REA, we value collaboration, diversity, and creativity in our work, and we strive to create and thrive in a continuously learning organization. We apply multiple lenses – helping our clients see their work in a broader context, focus on equity, or recognize the needs and ideas of their audiences.

Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a Research Associate who would primarily work on a multi-year project researching digital media and programming being developed for young children.

Applicants should have strong organizational and communication skills, and be receptive to feedback from managers, peers, and clients. They should be comfortable taking the initiative to establish partnerships with community organizations and engaging with families, formal educators, and informal educators in research activities. Applicants should have experience working with or conducting research studies with children and/or historically marginalized communities. Applicants are expected to be able to travel to conduct research activities, attend client meetings, and to disseminate findings at conferences. Travel requirements will vary depending on project needs, typically 5-10 trips a year lasting from 2-7 days at a time. Applicants who live near one of our hubs (San Francisco Bay Area, Bloomington, IN, Washington DC, Cincinnati, OH, or Pittsburgh, PA) are encouraged to apply. We also welcome applicants from across the United States.

REA is actively seeking to broaden our collective perspectives while we strive to create a lasting culture of diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization—as such, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of historically marginalized groups and strongly encourage persons of color to apply for this position. We are especially interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds, applicants with fluency in Spanish, and applicants who are the first in their families to attend college. REA is an equal opportunity employer.
