Machinist III
POSITION OBJECTIVE Perform the tasks of a CNC Machinist. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Set-up and operate CNC Mills and/or Lathes. Assist in the selection of tools, holding fixtures, and methods for producing machined parts. Change worn tooling. Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring tools and blueprints. Read and understand all types of drawings required to machine parts such as castings, forgings, and detailed engineering sketches. Check first piece and work during the operation of the part and make cutting tool offset adjustments to ensure parts are machined to specifications. Complete all necessary paperwork as required including scorecards, hazard recognitions, routers and data, Red Tags, etc. Use various manual inspection equipment (i.e. gauges and automated CMMs). Change off sets as necessary to maintain quality. Deburr parts during the machine cycle. Effectively perform secondary operations (i.e. set-up and operation on simple machines or processes including drill press, stamping press, deburring, etc.). Maintain an acceptable production rate based on pre-established standards. Produce products that meet all quality and drawing requirements. Prove out new set-ups. Read and interpret CNC program to recognize and make changes to rectify excessive tool wear and minor program oversights. Identify new ways to machine parts to improve quality and productivity. Troubleshoot simple tooling and programming issues. Assist in training co-workers. Maintain all paperwork and company records associated with producing the part. Promptly report all tooling or program problems to supervisor. Perform other tasks as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED). Completed Trade School Apprenticeship program or a minimum of three (3) years of CNC set-up experience. Fluent in blueprint reading or successfully complete blueprint training onsite. JOB SPECIFICATION Knowledge of at least 3 axis machining and above. Good working knowledge of shop math (i.e. algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and GD&T). Good understanding of computers, CNC equipment, CNC controls, and tool offsets. Familiar with precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, depth gauges, bore gauges, dial calipers, etc. Experienced in interpreting tool and part drawings including but not limited to geometrical tolerancing and manually calculated dimensions. Good understanding of quality measures, AQL levels and inspection methods. Work overtime as assigned. Knowledge and skills: Knowledge of CAD/CAM software. (MasterCam, SolidWorks, AutoDesk Inventor) Ability to read and understand part drawings and specifications Basic understanding of Kaizen and lean manufacturing principles Knowledgeable in Office software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) Good organization and documentation skills. Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving mechanical or logistical problems that arise Have strong attention to detail PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Pass basic eye test. Required lifting weight: 50 pounds. Lifting frequency: Daily. Frequent standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Good eye and hand dexterity. Able to load parts using hand tools. POSITION COMPETENCIES Operate machine (manual and automatic) in a safe manner at all times. Must wear the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while performing tasks. Self-motivated. Able to multi-task. Take direction as required. Perform preventative maintenance.
