POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is an individual contributor role responsible for setting strategic direction for the assigned commodity, managing negotiations, and helping achieve the budget, sourcing, closing campaigns, and meeting rationalization targets. The Manager will forecast and report economic savings performance, negotiate price reductions or increases, drive long term agreements, market test, award new business to maximize leverage, and analyze various reports to identify and cost reduction opportunities. Additionally, the Manager will support special projects as necessary to assist in delivering commodity goals. This role is approximately 70% Strategic/ 30% Operational (Focus: Commodity Strategy, Benchmarking, Sourcing Committee preparations, mid to upper management presentations, resourcing as needed, Technical Cost reductions, Warranty agreements, managing supplier financial distress, coordination with global teams, supplier capacity management.)


This position will report to the Sr. Manager Global Sourcing and will be located in Ames, Iowa (hybrid). This position is eligible for a flexible hybrid work model. Ideal candidates will be located in or near Ames/Iowa.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead supplier evaluation, selection, and sourcing for assigned commodities for Ames/Iowa and/or leading/supporting global sourcing projects by working closely with the global commodity team.

  • Support new product launches timing, leveraging growth in new parts to implement sourcing strategy objectives, such as rationalization and cost reduction.

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies that deliver parts availability at lowest total cost. Drive the selection of suppliers, negotiate and maintain performance to expectations.

  • Negotiate and sign long-term agreements that cement supplier expectations around commercial savings, raw material cost recovery, and operating performance. Facilitate value engineering activities to drive product cost savings and process improvement to achieve budget performance.

  • Contribute your knowledge, gained through training and experience, to mentor others, so we grow together as Procurement professionals.

  • Execute blanket orders and cost updates.

  • Be the companys expert for your regional commodity, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, raw material, lead-times, technology and manufacturing capability in the market.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related field along with a minimum of 6 years of purchasing, costing or related engineering experience OR a Master's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related field along with a minimum of 4 years of purchasing, costing or related engineering experience

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft products, specifically Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to travel up to 20% - domestic and international (majority of travel will be domestic)
