Senior Accountant - Sea-Bird Scientific - Hybrid

Summary

It is the responsibility of the Senior Accountant to maintain the general ledger and to coordinate the maintenance of all sub-ledgers, including Cash, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Inventory. This person is also responsible for assisting with month end close, reconciliation preparation, and special projects as needed. The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Director of Finance. A Senior Accountant is accountable for the following:

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for month end closing:
    • Process monthly journal entries
    • Conduct various month-end close activities.
    • Process all monthly reporting out of the general ledger
    • Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to support schedules, and analysis of balance sheet accounts.
    • Ensure accuracy of A/R and A/P sub-ledgers through both reconciliation as well as account analysis.
    • Ensure complete accuracy of the trial balance, income statement, and balance sheet.
    • Prepare Monthly Actual to Budget variance analysis.
    • Explain any unusual variances in all accounts from historical run rates.
    • Explain any variances to budget, forecast, and prior year results.
    • Prepare monthly STATS reporting
  • Prepare Quarterly STATS reporting
  • Prepare and submit monthly state and/or federal taxes: state business and occupation tax, property tax, income tax, payroll tax, etc.
  • Prepare all documentation for internal audit, including account reconciliation, preparation of monthly close binders, process narratives, and account analysis.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts
  • Credit Card reconciliations
  • Accurately prepare, submit, and distribute payroll for salary and hourly staff
  • Import and export payroll data. Reconcile payroll accounts
  • Ensure that sales/product costing is completed and analyzed on a weekly (or bi-weekly) basis
  • Ensure that A/P sub-ledger is reconciled and analyzed on a weekly (or bi-weekly) basis
  • Sales/Bookings/Backlog reporting
  • Ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Lead analysis and testing for SOX and associated/related compliance/internal control efforts.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget.
  • Ad hoc reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 4 years work experience in professional accounting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred
  • BA or BS Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite {expert in Excel}

The salary range for this role is $90K - 115K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Washington. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
