Position Summary
The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (Warnell) at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Forest Finance. The position is open at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor with expected research (60%), teaching (33%), and professional service (7%) responsibilities. We seek candidates who are committed to developing or have already established a nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching program in forest finance and/or closely related areas.
The successful candidate will use quantitative methods to evaluate issues associated with financial and risk management decisions of forest managers, forest businesses, and institutional investors, and provide them with research-based analysis and information.
The candidate’s research may include financial returns and risks of forest and forestland investment, forestland as an asset class in portfolio management, forest products market and trade analysis, and/or financial effects of forest-related policy on forest management decisions. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to identify research needs and advance knowledge in forest finance as forest or environmental product markets develop.
The candidate will teach graduate courses including: 1) Timberland Accounting, Finance, and Taxation, and 2) Forest Finance Decisions. Advising of undergraduate students and establishing and supporting an active graduate research program in forest finance are also expected. Collaboration with faculty in the Harley Langdale Jr. Center for Forest Business and leadership in the Master of Forest Resources (MFR) degree in Forest Business program is expected.
The candidate will secure external funding for research, successfully mentor graduate students, and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals. Active professional service relates to scientific societies, the peer review process, and service on Warnell and UGA committees.
The successful candidate who has met the criteria for tenure and the rank of Associate Professor or Professor will be nominated to hold the endowed Hargreaves Professor of Forest Finance, subject to approval by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
Review of applications will begin on March 20, 2023. Candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, one-page statements of both teaching and research interests, unofficial transcripts of all college-level work, and names and contact information for three references. A background investigation and request of official transcripts will be conducted on a post-offer/pre-employment basis only. The preferred starting date is negotiable but no later than August 1, 2023, is desired.
