Research Intern, Bioinformatics (Temp-Nutley)
Overview
The Research Intern, Bioinformatics, will work in the lab of Dr. Binfeng Lu. Dr. Lu’s research area includes tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy. His lab investigates ways to harness T cell-mediated anti-tumor immune responses to treat cancer. His team has performed molecular characterization of tumor-associated Treg cells with the discovery of TIM3+ Treg cells in the tumor immune suppressive microenvironment, established key transcription factors, such as Tbet and Eomes, that regulate tumor-specific memory stem T cells, and ushered in novel cytokine-based cancer immunotherapy based on tissue alarmin cytokines, such as IL-33 and IL-36. At CDI, the Lu lab studies fundamental molecular mechanisms underpinning anti-tumor immune cellular networks, leveraging data science, cutting-edge immunological techniques, clinically relevant mouse cancer models, and a rich collection of human cancer specimens. The Research Intern, Bioinformatics, will work on cutting-edge research projects and gain hands-on experience in the field of bioinformatics. They will assist with the analysis of large-scale genomic and single cell RNA sequencing data sets. Conduct literature searches and stay up-to-date on the latest bioinformatics techniques and tools. As well as collaborate with lab members on new data interpretation and project planning. The Research Intern, Bioinformatics will participate in lab meetings and presentations to share progress and insights.
The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI), was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 18 labs, 150 scientists and support personnel, who are supported by more than 85 grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.
