This position is for an Active Transportation Engineer. In this role, you will be part of the Metro DC team and more specifically reporting to the VHB office in Tysons, Virginia. Coordinating with our planning and engineering staff, you will contribute to active transportation studies, pedestrian and bicycle planning and design, complete streets, and safety planning and design projects, for a variety of clients and project scales.
Responsibilities
- Work with a team of professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to develop mobility solutions which consider all users integrating Complete Street concepts within urban and suburban communities
- Conduct multi-modal safety transportation analyses
- Prepare corridor and intersection safety and improvement studies
- Conduct research, prepare reports, and present findings and results to clients
- Develop proposals and scopes of work, track project budgets, and manage project teams
- Work within a team of professionals to develop transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of multimodal transportation projects
- Conduct transportation planning and scoping analyses
- Collect and tabulate multimodal safety (including traffic volume, roadway, and crash) data
- Work with Federal clients on identifying and applying best practices
- Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports

Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional transportation engineering and/or planning experience, preferably in a consulting environment required
- 10+ years of professional transportation / planning experience preferred
- PE strongly preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD/Microstation strongly preferred
- Experience with multimodal analysis (Synchro and HCS experience a plus)
- Familiarity with national and/or local transportation engineering standards, including VDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents
