Virtual ESL/EFL Global Projects for the U.S. Department of State in 2024/2025
Teach Globally From Home

The Virtual English Language Educator Program offers experienced U.S. ESL/EFL professionals paid part-time virtual assignments at universities and other institutions worldwide.

Virtual English Language Educator projects focus on training pre-service teachers, teaching university students or adult professionals, and building English language capacity in local communities.

Virtual Educators are citizen ambassadors who promote mutual understanding through English language learning and cultural exchange.

The Virtual Educator Program provides professionals with a platform to build skills that can greatly enhance their TESOL careers without leaving home.

Program benefits:
Stipend ($35 per contact hour)
Compensation for pre-project planning and pre-lesson prep, commensurate with the scope of the project
Virtual activities allowance
Access to a professional network of highly-experienced TESOL professionals and professional development events

The Virtual English Language Educator Program is now recruiting applicants for the 2024-2025 academic year, with projects starting as early as August 2024. The Virtual English Language Educator Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

Qualifications & Requirements
Who are we looking for? ESL/EFL educators with:
Five years of experience in education, including at least three years in ESL/EFL classrooms
A graduate degree, preferably in TESOL or a related field
Online teaching experience (preferred)
Personal qualities of flexibility, resourcefulness, and cultural adaptability
U.S. citizenship

By completing projects designed by U.S. Embassies in more than 80 countries, English Language Fellows, Specialists, and Virtual Educators work closely with local teachers, students, and education professionals to improve English language teaching capacity overseas. Program participants serve as representatives and cultural ambassadors of the United States and, through a unique cultural exchange, they support the U.S. Department of State’s public diplomacy mission abroad.
