The State of Connecticut's Department of Labor (DOL), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CONN-OSHA) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Occupational Hygienist. As an Occupational Hygienist, you will:
Prepare for and conduct workplace walkthroughs to identify potential hazards and determine compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Develop and conduct industrial hygiene sampling surveys using technical instruments, including air monitoring and noise dosimetry equipment.
Provide comprehensive written reports and verbal communications to employers and employees regarding occupational safety and health hazards and recommended abatement strategies.
Train employers, workers, unions, and trade associations on occupational safety and health hazards, standards, and control strategies.
Interview and communicate with employees, managers, executives, and union officials to acquire information and respond to safety and health-related questions.
Work both independently and collaboratively to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) years of experience in occupational health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training in chemistry, occupational health, physics or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
A Master's degree in industrial hygiene, public health or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health standards.
Experience with preparing for and conducting workplace walkthroughs to identify potential workplace hazards and determine compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Experience developing and conducting an industrial hygiene sampling survey with technical instruments that include, but are not limited to, air monitoring and noise dosimetry equipment.
Experience with providing employers and employees with comprehensive written reports and verbal communications regarding occupational safety and health hazards and recommended abatement strategies.
Experience training employers, workers, unions or trade associations on occupational safety and health hazards, standards and control strategies.
Experience interviewing/communicating with employees, managers, executives and/or union officials to obtain information and respond to safety and health related questions.
Experience working with others, but also independently, to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
