The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is hiring an Environmental Trainee (35 Hour) to work within the Materials Management and Compliance Assurance (MMCA) Engineering and Enforcement Division/Pesticide Management Program (PMP) and join our team in Hartford, CT.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, Monday - Friday, with typical hours being in between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM with the flexibility of a hybrid schedule, located at DEEP Headquarters in Hartford, CT.
This is a one to three-year training classification and upon successful completion of the training period, the incumbents will be promoted to an Environmental Analyst 1.
The responsibilities of this position include conducting investigative and compliance inspections, which may include in-person observations of pesticide use, of businesses and individuals that use and sell pesticides or engage in arboriculture such as landscapers, exterminators, farms and marketplaces where pesticides are used, distributed or sold, report writing, in-person and written communication of technical information with the public and regulated community, case development/documentation and assisting with enforcement activities.
This position will require the Environmental Trainee to hold a valid driver’s license, obtain OSHA 40-hour hazardous material training and submit to possible background check.

Salary Note: During the first year of training, Environmental Trainees with a Bachelor's degree earn $47,229 per year, and Environmental Trainees with a Master's degree earn $48,933 per year.

Within the Bureau of Materials Management & Compliance Assurance (MMCA), our mission is to work to ensure the proper management - handling, use, recycling and disposal - of materials including municipal solid waste, recyclable materials, pesticides, mercury, PCBs, and petroleum products. Through a number of different mechanisms - outreach and education, product handling efforts and phase outs, training, and regulatory activity - the Department is working to develop better stewardship of these materials to protect environmental quality and public safety for Connecticut's current and future generations.

The Engineering and Enforcement Division/Pesticide Management Program (PMP) is responsible for registration of pesticide products for statewide use and distribution, processing applications for aerial and aquatic pesticide application permits, certification of pesticide applicators and arborists, registration of commercial pesticide application businesses and restricted-use pesticide dealers, conducting compliance and investigative inspections including in-person observation of pesticide applications, and enforcement of pesticide and arboriculture laws.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
