The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is recruiting for a new position within our Office of Legal and Governmental Affairs for a Staff Attorney 2.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
Monday - Friday
1st shift / 40 hours
Hybrid
Location: 450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT

THE ROLE:
You will engage daily with Bureau of Special Education (BSE) staff on the receipt and disposition of administrative complaints, with a focus on understanding the case, including all relevant allegations, applying case law and legal standards, and reviewing and ultimately approving final reports prior to their dissemination.

The Connecticut State Department of Education is the administrative arm of the Connecticut State Board of Education. Through leadership, curriculum, research, planning, evaluation, assessment, data analyses and other assistance, the Department helps to ensure equal opportunity and excellence in education for all Connecticut students. The Department is responsible for distributing funds to all Connecticut public school districts.
Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience in the practice of law.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience representing clients at Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and reviewing Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
Experience representing clients in Connecticut State Department of Education special education administrative complaints, hearings, or mediations.
Experience drafting legal briefs or legal memoranda in administrative or court cases involving federal and Connecticut special education law.
Experience interpreting and applying federal and state special education statutes including the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).
Experience applying legal requirements to violations of special education law.
Experience working with legal and non-legal staff.
