Deputy Director
Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) is seeking a Director of Development to lead and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy at a pivotal moment of organizational growth. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Portland, Maine metropolitan area and reports to the Executive Director. The Director of Development will oversee all development activities, including cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners; leading grant development and reporting; and managing donor cultivation systems and fundraising initiatives aligned with IAA’s mission and long-term sustainability.
Working closely with the Executive Director and organizational leadership, the Director of Development will drive revenue growth to sustain and expand IAA’s multidisciplinary artist residency program, public programming, and local-to-global partnerships. This role plays a central part in ensuring that Black and Brown artists have the time, space, and support needed to create transformative work.
At Indigo Arts Alliance, fundraising is understood as relational and values-driven work. The Director of Development will help steward the next chapter of the organization’s growth, strengthening financial infrastructure while supporting a Black-led arts organization rooted in Maine and engaged in ongoing exchange with artists and cultural institutions across multiple geographies.
Qualifications & Requirements • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in nonprofit operations or program management, with demonstrated systems-building expertise
• Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• Proven track record managing teams, budgets, and complex programs within arts and cultural organizations
• Strong systems thinker with demonstrated project management and process improvement skills
• Experienced people leader who coaches, develops staff, and fosters inclusive, collaborative work environments
• Mission-driven professional committed to advancing Black and Brown communities through the arts
• Experience working with artists and diverse communities in culturally responsive ways
