GENERAL DUTIES
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and serving as a senior member of the Student Affairs Cabinet, the Deputy Director serves in a multifaceted capacity to provide campus-wide leadership in the delivery of support services, programs, and activities to a diverse student population to enhance the overall CSI student experience.
The Deputy Director will have responsibility for the following:
- Chairs the campus-wide New Student Orientation Program Committee to plan 16 orientation sessions annually for approximately 3500 students. Partners with Academic Deans and Department Chairs to plan separate departmental orientation programs for entering transfer students.
- Oversees the creation of content for supplemental online new student orientation modules. Works closely across the campus to carefully plan coordinated programs, activities and services to increase student participation in on-campus and web-based activities.
- Designs, implements and evaluates workshops geared towards first-year student success, largely through the CLUE Program.
- Collaborates with the Dolphin Cove Residence Hall administration to assess program offerings for residents. In conjunction with Dolphin Cove Senior Administration and staff, oversees the new overnight stay component for new students attending summer orientation sessions.
- Develops strong collaborative working relationships to create learning communities with affinity student groups, such as LGBTQ, underrepresented minorities, students with disabilities and others to facilitate their successful transition and matriculation to the College.
- Develops proposals for internal/external funding and solicits grant information to expand program offerings and student opportunities.
- Hires, trains, and ensures professional development opportunities and on-going training for staff members. Supervises a staff of 45 to include an Assistant Director, as well as other full-time and part-time professional and administrative staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field preferred
- 5 years of successful progressive professional experience; strong consideration will be given towards candidates with experience in a diverse higher education setting focused on orientation
- Knowledge of student development, learning, and leadership theories and an understanding of the cultural, social, and educational needs of a multi-ethnic campus community
- Must have excellent organizational, presentation, training, and written/oral communication skills, as well as the ability to provide outstanding customer service in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, managing social media, and designing promotional and informational materials
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to work and interact effectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively with a diverse community of learners, students, faculty, and staff, especially in a large centralized public university system
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience.
