FAMILIES ARE UNDER SIEGE – THEY NEED OUR PRAYERS & SUPPORT!!! (189 hits)

Good Evening, Everyone

By now I’m sure that all of you are aware of the tragedy in Wilmington, CA. A family of seven “self-destructed” very early yesterday morning. Both parents lost their jobs along with any hope of keeping their family together throughout their apparent economic meltdown. The parents chose to end their lives as well as their children’s. According to the authorities, this family was the fifth in California within the last year to undergo such a horrific termination. It’s so unfortunate when outside pressures force individuals to contemplate harming themselves and others closest to them when their economic security has collapsed.

In fact, while I was visiting New Orleans, Louisiana around the Holidays, a young, 22 year old father decided to kill his two year old son to avoid paying child support. This young man attempted to cover up his crime by telling everyone that his child had been kidnapped. Fortunately, it did not take the New Orleans Police detectives long to figure out what really happened and the young man sorrowfully confessed his crime. He realized too late that killing his loving, defenseless child was wrong. His child deserved to live just as much as the five little ones ages 2 thru 8 deserved to live. These little ones had no choice. Their parents were only thinking of themselves – not their children.

Both of these families were of African American descent. It’s no secret within our community that to seek psychiatric counseling is considered “weak”. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, the availability of free mental health services was somewhat limited and afterwards the availability of these services has dwindled more so in New Orleans. Considering the shattered state of our economy, all families regardless of their ethnic or socio-economic status will undergo intense stress. We as tax payers should urge our local, state and federal politicians to increase the availability of free and affordable mental health services. Truthfully, our economy is not going to stabilize and repair, itself, anytime soon. We should let people know, if they are being overwhelmed – it’s alright to seek professional help. No one is judging you. We understand. All of us are only human – not “superhuman”. My prayers go out to all families. Families are the foundation upon which civilization is built. Without them, we have nothing!

May Peace Be With All of You,

Good Evening, Irma. I could not agree with you more. Before it is all said and done, our community is going to have to embrace these values again.

It's such a sad time for many American families. My heart and prayers go out to the relatives and loved ones of the family.

Hello Clark:

I really appreciate your comments. My purpose for posting this blog was to place an emphasis on "PREVENTION". Regardless of the socio-economic background of a parent, ANY PARENT WHO KILLS A SMALL, DEFENSELESS CHILD IS MENTALLY DERANGED! Parents who even consider doing such a thing really need to seek professional help. By no means am I excusing their acts! Perhaps, if they chose to seek some form of counseling, if only from their church pastors, these children may still be alive. I'm trying my absolute best not to judge anybody because I'm not standing in their shoes. I'm only offering a suggestion.

Sincerely,

Gail Cooper

I am not saying that nothing like this will never happen in my family. I do hope that no matter what heppenss to any member of my family or any of our close friends that we will never doubt the unity that has been taught: "My door is always open" and the, "I may not be able to give you any money, but when I eat so will you; when I go to sleep in my home you will have a place to sleep in my home also".

I (pray) chant that we still have this as a part of our culture of never turing any one away if they are in need, even a stranger. It is very hard today to be able to trust some of those that we know or even our family members, but every thing happens for a reason is my belief therefore learn to trust your first thought, because we do have a built in way of being warned of danger so listen to your own self.

Clark, I agree with you 100%, but we live in a society(as I stated on another post)how those we leave behind suffer still. We do tend to blame the innocent for the crimes of only knowing someone. We tend to just kill, then forgive in the name of----. This is why I leave a rational opening that we learn to see both sides and then start from this for a change.

I do not say this because I am Buddhist, I say this because my best freind will never forgive these words said to her when her daughter's husband killed her, "It is God's will"...and she was to put all of this in God's hands...she left Christianity...

..no my friend is not a Buddhist, and what is this I keep hearing from the males when this story is told, all of the importance is stress on the S-O-N. Both s*xes were represented here and I see equality in the loss of these CHILDREN!!!!!!
