James L. Farmer, Jr.
CORE Co-Founder

Thirteen Members Of The Congress Of Racial Equality (CORE) Set Out On A Bus Ride From Washington, DC To New Orleans, On May 4, 1961.

The Civil Rights Activists Were Testing A 1960 Supreme Court Ruling That Expanded Anti-Discrimination Laws Covering Interstate Travel To Include Facilities Used By Travelers.

The Freedom Riders Entered Segregated Terminals, Waiting Rooms, Rest Rooms And Restaurants. They Were Harassed, Beaten And Arrested.

In Alabama, A White Mob Set Fire To The Lead Bus That The Freedom Riders Were Using. Twelve Activists Were Hospitalized. The Bus Was Destroyed.

By The Time They Were Arrested In Jackson, Mississippi, The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) And Nashville Student Movement Had Recruited And Prepared Over 300 Freedom Riders To Fill The Mississippi Jails. The NAACP Assisted In The Effort By Providing Legal Defense For The Activists.

CORE Was Founded By A Group Of Interracial Students, On The Campus Of The University Of Chicago, In 1942. The Group's Aim Was To Use Nonviolent/Ghandian Tactics To Fight Segregation.

Founding Members Included James L. Farmer, Jr., George Houser And Bernice Fisher. Bayard Rustin, Roy Innis And Murdered Civil Rights Activists, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman And Michael Schwerner Are Among The More Famous Names Affiliated With CORE Over The Years.

YES...YES...YES.....YES.....Farmer was AWESOME!! He would dress up as an old sharecropper... OMG!! see the movie
Check out the movie MISSISSIPPI BURNING.....
U.S. Senator James Eastland who reportedly said when the three civil rights workers (Mickey Schwerner, James Chaney, and Andrew Goodman) went missing in Mississippi on June 21, 1964, "the incident is a hoax and there is no Ku Klux Klan in the state; the three have gone to Chicago" and that it was staged by the three young men to call attention to their cause............ NEEDLESS TO SAY, THAT wasn't true
THANK YOU.................

Thank You, To ALL you guys, for reading theses posts each day!! Your support is priceless!! Cynthia, I hope to be posting the movie, Mississippi Burning, on my website soon. Farmer's life, as a Child Prodigy, was also depicted in "The Great Debaters," with Denzel Washington & Forest Whitaker.

Irma, I think you'll enjoy "The Great Debaters," for a lot of reasons.....the historical content, the acting, and the fact that for a long time this was one of the true and untold stories in Black History.

Now I must make it a goal to see The Great Debater. "I" tend to stay away from as many all Black movies as I can, because of the Blacksplotations. (smile)

Gaddy, I have not read you today's blog, but from what I say this is another person I have never heard of before...he has such a mixed heritage. My husband was stationed in the Marine Corp on Ohau, Hawaii, and the people who live there will tell you all of the races they are mixed with from I believe the first generation. lol They always fasinated me with this. They were proud of each mixture. (smile)
