The Queen's Chair: Teachers of School #16 (238 hits)

(QM's note: When student Bryan Garcia volunteered to write a story about his teachers at School # 16, he promised he would interview them and give me some tidbits about them that I wouldn't know. He didn't disappoint me. :) )


Mrs. Joan Cowles was a teacher at School #16 for 20 years. She taught pre-school for eight years. Mrs. Cowles was a sixth grade teacher for her entire time she worked at School #16. She oves nature. Joan Cowles trained at the National Wildlife Foundation; she likes the blue heron. It is her totem. Mrs. Cowles studies art and learned to swim at the age of two. She was a water baby. She grew up in Syracuse. She has traveled all 50 states when she was a child.

She enjoys young adults who make good decisions. Mrs. Cowles likes students that show what they know and use their time wisley. Joan Cowles is a fifth generation teacher. That means that her mother, grandmother, great aunt, and great grandmother all taught in Syracuse. She likes to read a lot and likes good jokes. She doesn't like people to take advantage of others. Her husband has a hot sauce company in California and has won many awards. Mrs. Cowles has made many movies.


Mrs. Mattie Shaw-Elliott worked at the Eastman Kodak Company for 23 years. When she left Kodak, she went back to school to get her master's degree in education. She has an undergraduate degree in accounting. She has worked for H&R Block as a tax advisor for 11 years. She became a teacher at School #16 three years ago. Mrs. Shaw-Elliot grew up in North Carolina. She has four brothers and four sisters that still live in North Carolina. Her hobbies are making porcelain dolls, going shopping for clothes and travelling. She has a coffee company. She sells gourmet coffee. The name of her company is Afrikan Coffee.

Mrs. Shaw-Elliott has no biological children, but has nine god children. She has been teaching children for 28 years. Her love for children is what made her become a teacher. She wants to help make them become the best they can be.
