The Long-Term Effects of Poor Education Standards are Now (266 hits)

The “long-term effects” of low education standards are often discussed in the future tense, howver, the reality is that a combination of those poor standards has culminated into a potential decrease of 3.0 million college graduates over the next eight years. The US economy, looking down the far-end of a long recovery, will need 22 million college graduates to fill the jobs left open by retiring babyboomers and economic expansion plans. The loss of three million of those graduates means 3 million fewer qualified candidates for those jobs.

According to University World News, “[In the US] the shortfall amounts to a deficit of 300,000 college graduates every year between 2008 and 2018 and results from burgeoning demand by employers for workers with high levels of education and training.”

The statistics and quote come from a recent report Help Wanted: Projections of jobs and education requirements through 2018, which was prepared by researchers at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

What Does it Mean?

Besides pre-emptively noting the shortcomings of our kids futures, the report shows the naked truth that the time is NOW to act for our kids’ future in education. With a 3 million graduate deficit and jobs needing employees, overseas outsourcing will continue to rear its ugly head, taking money out of our economy and out of our country’s future.

Now, today, right now, is the time to make a difference in our kids future, and in that of our country and it’s economy. Take action to make a difference in your local school system. We have to do what we can to reduce the predictions noted in this report.
