Fear of the Unknown (63 hits)

Fear is a powerful thing. Though we all know it's not the way God intended us to live our lives everyday, it's tough to get beyond that red level of fear based on rumor and probability. Sometimes I think about how unfair it is when life throws those fearsome curve balls and expects you to dodge them like the Matrix. I know it's a part of being an adult, and part of making it through life's obstacles, but why must we deal with situations that leave us somewhat paralyzed with no immediate option in sight?

Well, the first thing I like to do is pray. Most of us know all too well that when you "give it to God to handle" that results are bound to close in quickly. But sometimes that eerie feeling of discontent feels so overbearing that you feel like you might bust a gut waiting for some sort of release. In an age where money, work, relationships and even family is so uncertain, it's tough to hold onto your faith when it calls for a pretty strong dose of it. I'll be the first to admit that there are times when it's easier to feel the fear of the unknown and the future than trust that everything will be as it will be. I've even felt guilty that my questions about things I can't control are taboo and it's not okay to feel that way. That it might even be considered an insult to God that I'm not trusting in him to handle my business, or rather, his business.

So what's a person to do? Well, I don't have the answers, but I have found that the more I work to control what I can control- what makes sense for me to work on- the easier it will be to let go of those things I cannot. Now don't get me wrong, this is all easier said than done. I'm only human, imperfect as the next guy, but when the worry gets to be so much that your own body has to slow you down, keeping your cool about the unknown somehow becomes a little easier.

Faith is a powerful thing. But as I learn my lessons everyday I'm finding that the works behind the faith are just as important. It's not an easy realization to come to. It means either changing or being pushed out of your comfort zone, but one way or another, we are all susceptible to change.

Why can't things stay the same? Why can't life be left alone?

Probably because in our hearts we always want more. We always want to know about the next phase, the next big thing, the next level that we constantly dream about. If we were born without hands, we'd dream of touching someone. If we were born without eyes, we'd long to see the world. And when we're exposed to something that, at one point, seemed inaccessible to us, we begin to think that we can obtain it if we only work a little harder, or get that big break.

That's why we have to keep it moving.
