Combined with the recent speech from the President to US students about the importance of continuing their education successfully, the Newsweek list of the best countries in the world confirms the loss of steam that the US experiencing is partially due to sliding education standards.
If our kids cannot compete on a global level now, while they’re still in school, just how do you think they’ll fare when the time comes for them to join the global workforce? In a world where the competitive standard is on the rise, our kids have to be able to stand up to that standard, and as citizens of a global superpower, to exceed it.
The reality of the US’s global positioning is further proven by The Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011, which shows the US standing at 4th in economic competitiveness.
No amount of funding can create the character and drive our students need to achieve the most from their education. No amount of research or statistics can support the holes left in our education system by the loss of teachers due to budget cuts.
If we are to successfully reform education, we will need cooperation and support from parents, teachers, administrators, staff and students. Students must come first in our reform efforts. They need our support as they walk the road to a stronger global position for the United States.
