According to a report in the Chicago Sun Times, “Illinois deserves a "D" for the education it provides in kindergarten through high school, a "C" for the job it does in college and an "incomplete'' for its early childhood work, Democrat William Daley and Republican Jim Edgar agree.
’Illinois has fallen behind. We trail the nation in most measures of education success,’' Daley told City Club of Chicago members at the Union League Club.”
Without going into a long list of the drawbacks of Illinois schools, the reality is that our schools are failing, and our students and community are suffering the consequences of this failure. Action is necessary at every point within the education process, from parents, from students, from administration and staff. Communities have to come together in support of their schools and donate time or finances as available to fill the holes in our districts.
Teach America’s Children is poised to offer the contacts, information and resources to Chicago area students and their families. It is our goal to offer the same resources to all Chicago students, regardless of economic or social scenarios, so they can reach their true potential with their education.
Chicago’s students have to wade through gang ridden streets and abject poverty just to get to school each day. It’s our job to give them the guidance and the support they need to build a brighter future. Like our page on Facebook for regular updates of tools and options to help with your child’s education. TAC is in the final stages of building a highly-resourceful website for Chicago areas parents and students interested in utilizing the tools available for a better education. Watch our Facebook page for updates as to launch.
There’s no more need to focus on the negative reality of our schools. It’s time to move forward, for new ideas and if we use the resources and tools at our disposal, we can only go up from here.
