Brooklyn Rapper Who Ranted About Killing Cops Busted on Drug Charges
- The feds have busted a rapper who boasted online about killing cops as the alleged kingpin of a violent Brooklyn drug gang, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Calling himself "Ra Diggs" and a member of a "murder team," Ronald Herron toted a submachine gun, wore bulletproofs vests and bragged on MySpace, YouTube and Twitter that he would "turn the pigs kids into" orphans, and that a willing cadre of "n****** will kill for meee."
The FBI and NYPD charged the ex-con Wednesday with heading a crack, cocaine and heroin-dealing gang they say dominated the drug trade in the Gowanus Houses, a city housing project.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and city police say Herron's crew specialized in distributing crack and heroin. They charged Herron and eight others, including two women, in Brooklyn federal court with narcotics trafficking and firearms offenses. The four-year joint investigation involved more than 65 NYPD undercover drug purchases.
Police say Herron has a long rap sheet and has a longstanding involvement in the drug trade, with prior convictions for carry a loaded .38 caliber revolver and drug sales.
Herron survived a shooting in October 2000. Two days later, his attacker was killed by Herron's cousin and another person.
In 2002, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office prosecuted Herron for the drug-related murder of Fredrick Brooks, who was gunned down in a lobby at the Gowanus Houses. During the trial, a witness testified that she saw Herron kill Brooks.
But two other eyewitnesses declined to testify against Herron after his associates threatened to kill them, according to authorities, and Herron was acquitted.
If convicted, Herron faces a sentence of five years to life in prison.
