Let it snow? My butt. I live in Upstate New York. In the past week, we have had nearly six feet of snow. Another foot is expected tonight. I used to like snow until I had to drive in it and shovel it. These days, I just drive. Someone else shovels these days.
I love when the snow first comes down. It's white, clean and so beautiful. After a few days, the pollution sets in and it turns dirty. The serenity it brought disappears. My kids love playing it and trying to pelt me with snow balls. They never expect me to throw it back at them. It's usually a direct hit. lol
The one thing I do like about the snow is what it represents: a rebirth of sorts. A time of reflection. This past Sunday, I took my youngest on our first sleigh ride. She was hesitant. My daughter liked the sleigh, the horse and wondered why I wanted to go? My answer: because we had never been.
As I climbed into the sleigh, I wondered what it must have been like to live during those days when your main source of transportation was this. A horse and sleigh?
Sitting through cold weather to get to your next destination. As our sleigh made its way around the public market, I couldn't help but notice people busying around the market as they watched the sleigh go by with adults and children.
It made me wish that our lives could be so simple. We let so many distractions prevent us from our destination. I reminded myself that I had been wanting to do this for weeks, but something else always prevented us from doing this. Sure, We stood in line for 40 minutes. Today, I decided that we were going to enjoy our day of rest. I also hoped this memory was one my daughter wouldn't forget:I know I won't.
