Our schools in Upstate New York were closed today. The weathermen expected this BIG monster storm that left two feet on snow and ice in Chicago. People were stranded in cars on expressways and the historic Lakeshore Blvd. As news about school closings came in last night, my youngest child was not happy about the possibility of missing school.
Her sister, however, was thrilled that we had a snow day. She complains about the amount of homework she gets. It's midterm time. She welcomed the extras zzzz's. My child wasn't too happy when I made her do her chore that she ignored the night before: take out the trash. She looked at me in disbelief as I took my stand and held her to her word.
While she was outside doing that. I caught up on writing, doing laundry, putting folded clothes away, and paying bills. The falling snow was beautiful to look at, but driving in it: a different story.
Eventually, I had to drive in it to replenishing some food supplies.I was worried that I couldn't get out of my driveway, but I did. It was cold and slippery. The flakes kept on coming. I felt like I was in a movie, as the snow lightly coated my window. I also watched every step I took. Today was NOT a day for me (or anyone) to fall.
While my daughters enjoyed staying home today, I just thought about God's amazing gift and how we were ignoring it. We were more focused on how the storm ruined or interrupted our day. Flights were canceled. People lost power. Some were stranded in airports. We forgot to stop and watch the power of God's Will in motion.
