The Queen's Chair: A CEO In PJ's (434 hits)

I work from home...most people know I do this. My day starts at 5:30 a.m. My teen gets ready for school. While she's getting ready, I sit in a pair of comfy pjs, turn on my screen and go to work.

My writing day is divided up in five sections: hotmail, Facebook, MomsLikeMe.com,
my blogs, and then novel writing. At 6 a.m., I turn the TV on and catch up on the local and national news that I talk about why other moms or in a blog. I write from six to eleven provided I have no meetings, phone calls, interviews, or a sick kid at home. I look at my list of blog topics. Look at one of my many calendars and pray I get to stay in and just write. Any freelance writing that comes in: gets done after 8 p.m.

The morning goes really fast. My teen leaves: my baby wakes up. I start the "getting ready" for school cycle with her. Sometimes, she gets up earlier because she has a math or social studies question. Or she may requizzed on spelling words. My daughter is learning how to style her long locks and at times she needs mom's help. Then we head downstairs and I watch her get ready to run outdoors and catch the bus.

The thought of changing out of pjs doesn't cross my mind. It just depends on the day. They are comfy and I don't have to stop what I'm doing. After my daughter is gone, I'll head to the kitchen look for a HUGE mug and fill it with tea. And then I'll find something for breakfast: oatmeal, a granola bar or what ever is left over. While breakfast is going, I open up the blinds in my house. The world is creeping in slowly.

Nobody sees me. At least not for a while.

I don't change until after noon into my normal clothes. Once I'm out of a hot shower, I could end up in a sweatshirt and jeans. Sweatpants and a t-shirt. Whatever may be clean in the drawer or my basket of folded clothes. Then I have lunch.

Being a CEO in pjs has its advantages: nobody sees my bad hair days, I work in comfort and quiet. I'm not subjected to listen to someone's conversation about what they watched on TV last night. Nor do I have to keep up with the office politics. I have no one clocking me about my time in. I do stick to my schedule. My computer has to be free but no later than 5 p.m., so my teen can get her homework done.

All that matters: I'm using my time wisely and my work gets done.
