Music Legend, Sylvester Stewart, Better Known As, Sly Stone, Was Born March 15, 1943, In Denton, Texas.
As Front Man Of The Diversely - Mixed Group, Sly & The Family Stone, He is Credited With Creating One Of The First Racially Integrated Bands In Music History.
Along With James Brown And Parlaiment Funkadelic, The Group's Socially Conscious Music Also Helped Popularize And Bring To The Mainstream, 1970s Funk. Bass Player, Larry Graham, Who Was Also A Member Of Sly & The Family Stone, Also Became An Innovator In The Funk Music Genre During This Period.
The Fusion Of R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz And Rock 'N Roll, That Characterized Stone's Music, Produced A String Of Million-Selling Anthems That Have Been Covered And/Or Sampled By Generations Of Artists Over The Years. His Hits Include: "Everyday People," "Everybody Is A Star," "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)," "Stand," "Family Affair," "If You Want Me To Stay," "Dance To The Music," "I Want To Take You Higher," "Don't Call Me *****, Whitey" "You Can Make It If You Try," "Sing A Simple Song" And "Hot Fun In The Summertime."
Artists Who Have Sampled, Covered Or Been Influenced Sly Stone's Music Are: Prince, Janet Jackson, Ike & Tina Turner, Public Enemy, The Jackson 5, The Beastie Boys, Kid Rock, Fatboy Slim And Ice Cube.
During The 1970s Stone Fell Victim To Drug Abuse And Disappeared From The Music Scene. He Was Inducted Into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1992, And Is The Recipient Of The 2002 R&B Foundation Pioneer Award.
