No American More American than the Black American: The danger in not knowing your history (1756 hits)

There is no American more American than the Black American. All other races and cultures have some tie historically, that they are AWARE of, beyond America. Most adult White Americans when in social circles will at some point state their historical roots beyond America by identifying themselves as Irish, Russian, German, Jewish, Italian, French, Swedish, and even English. Most Hispanic people will at some point reveal that they are from Spain directly, The Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peurto Rica, Brazil, etc. Asians will let you know that they are not Japanese, but Chinese, or the other way around, or that they are Korean or otherwise. Even Arabs born here will speak their native tongue publically and if asked, will tell you if they are Chaldean, Saudi, Syria, Iranian, etc.

But Blacks in America…we trace ourselves to one place…here! Why is that? And how does that inability to go beyond the shores of this country historically, negatively affect us? Why does it matter?

To begin with, since being brought here, we were conquered physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. Slave traders had to “break” us so that we would not only fear White slave owners, but that we would be dependent upon them for our own social identity. We were told that we were the “Wretched of the Earth” and that they (Whites) saved us from a life of savagery and that in return we should be forever indebted to them. We should serve them as we would serve God and that we should obey them as we would obey God. We should be glad to work for them for free. Glad to help them build a new world for themselves.

Over time we became so thoroughly convinced, through force and mis-education in the classrooms of their schools, that what they said about us was true! We took on the belief that we contributed nothing to the development of society. That White’s and a few others are the founders of all we see and that they are the standard of beauty and what is best in civilized society! So, we started to strive to be like them. We took on their diet, their mannerism, their dress, their language, their view of male and female relationships, their view of God, their philosophy… their mind became our mind. And, those of us who could most mimic them were considered to be the most successful. That even exists in a great many of us till this day. We don’t care to know much of anything about what is now called Africa. We could care less about our original language, culture and concept of God. But we do this to our own detriment.

In not having a tie to our heritage, our history, we have no connection to the cultural transmission of accumulated knowledge, wisdom and understanding from our ancestors, which, the original civilizations and empires of the world were built upon. We have effectively been cut off from the cultural and spiritual ability to receive right guidance, externally and internally, for a lack of knowledge. If we are the founders of the oldest civilizations in the world, AND BLACKS ARE. If we are the creators of the philosophical, spiritual insight and scientific method that has led to the founding of western civilization, AND WE ARE! Then how is it that we can be so defunct today, as a people, in all primary aspects of life? It’s because we don’t know who we are! We believe that the totality of who we are lies in what we have been told about ourselves here in America. We have no real knowledge of self! And knowledge of Self and Kind, leads to the reconnection to that cultural information and spiritual ability to receive right guidance.

Religion, ( re + ligāre to bind, tie) to re-connect, to tie back to God is supposed to help do that! But, when your concept of God is a White man (as Jesus His Son) it only succeeds in keeping you tied to him as your source for life guidance and sustenance! Now how has that worked out for us as a people? According to statistics and their own news it hasn’t! That’s why it is extremely important, for us to connect with our history and heritage so that we can free ourselves. You are far more than an African American! You are bigger than this brief period in history on the shores of America. Your history extends back to the beginning of time! But you will never come to know and accept that without the truth. The truth WILL set us free but WHICH truth? The truth of who we really are in relation to our history, culture and our God. Know Your Story! Know Your Self!

Hello Mr. Stewart,

I believe I understand what you are trying to say. However, let me make a correction, okay.

You said this, " But Blacks in America…we trace ourselves to one place…here!"

Then you said this, "To begin with, since being brought here, we were conquered physically, mentally, spiritually and socially."

Okay, you could see that both statements can not be true. One cancels out the other. In other words, since Black Americans could only be traced to one place... this continent and country of White America, then obviously Black Americans were not brought here from Africa. Am I making any sense with you?

I told you before how Black Americans came into existence. Firstly, Black Americans are a new race of people. Black Americans came into existence when White American men bred themselves with the pure African slave people they purchase from the slave traders. Does breeding process lasted over 300 years and from it came Black Americans. Black Americans are neither Africans nor are we Caucasians. We are a new race of people born out of the ashes of plantation slavery. Consequentially, our origin is right here as you first said, but you went on to mess it up by saying we were brought here. We weren't brought here. We originated here. Africans were brought here on slave ships, am I right.

Apparently you do not know your own history even though you advise that we should know our history.

Since I am Black America's first genuine prophet I must know who my people are and how we came into existence. Likewise, Moses knew who his people were and how they came to be in Egypt in bondage and slavery.

Everything that I say is going to happen. Black Americans are going to inherit a reasonable portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to worship God, pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way. Am I making myself clear to you?

So, go back to the drawing board and straighten out this silly error of yours, okay.

What say you?

@Anthoney, if "I" believed taht me being Black / African-American made me nonhuman, then I would be able to agree with you in whay you say about us...but...

"I" am someone who believes that each and every member of the human race are responsaible for their own actions, I must reject the myth that all Blacks are alike. Life is a process of learning and the more we demand tha tour BIA history is taught from an African-centered view point of view then we will not be able to move beyond agreeing with we are justified in being labeled 'less than' and having it backed up by things as in this blog of yours. ...I believe we can use as a starting point throwing out that myth on we were SLAVES...

we were Chattel slaves, better know as not human but property that needed to obey the Bible's teachings of the harder one worked / suffered the better the reward in heaven...but we had to work even harder, because we had to get 'souls' first, ect. (smile)

WE STILL IN MANY WAYS CONTINUE THE BELIEF TAHT WE MUST WORK HARDER THAN THE NEXT RACE OF 'CIVILIZED' PEOPLES AS WE HAVE NOT GOTTEN THERE Y-E-T, MAYBE?????!!!? (NUP)
