wife and I seen the show last night and thought wow ! how the tables always turn on a bully ,,,,,(ThyBlackMan.com) Evelyn Lozada. So much springs to mind when I read or hear her name. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that she is a reality tv “star” of sorts who is infamous for her televised bravado and brawls on her reality show, “Basketball Wives” and her controversial marriage to Chad Ochocinco (Johnson) which has recently suffered a near-fatal blow (pun intended). When I hear ‘Lozada’ unfortunately I think of some Latino or Hispanic boxer who is known for pummeling opponents and who has a brash, arrogant street style.
Stereotypes aside, this is not too far off the mark, sadly. Evelyn Lozada rose to fame primarily for playing the tough, quick to pop off woman on the show. Fans were either disgusted with her antics or cheered her on for her ‘street cred’. But now the tables have turned. Evelyn Lozada, the woman who was quick to hit, has now been hit herself. And by her new husband, Chad Johnson nonetheless. If this isn’t a case of the ‘chickens coming home to roost’, I don’t know what is.
It is said that ‘hurt people, hurt people’. Perhaps this is the truth when it comes to Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson. She alleges that he head-butted her during an argument and because of that, filed for divorce. I wonder if in that moment she was able to think about the many people she has battered or attempted to batter. I wonder if that was her personal ‘aha’ moment. I know that subsequent to this incident she has been quite vocal about domestic abuse and how violence against women is wrong.
Yet this is the same Evelyn Lozada who has demonstrated her propensity for violence against women on her national tv show. I wonder if she has confronted her own personal demons and made attempts to atone for her actions against her female co-stars on the show. I wonder if she realizes that violence is never the answer. She taped a show on Oprah’s network with Iyanla Vanzant called ‘Fix My Life’ prior to her incident with her husband. From the clips it appears the host takes her to task about her antics on the show and in her real life. It will be interesting to see how she reconciles these events.
Evelyn Lozada is no different from many women in today’s society. Women who experienced dysfunction and abuse in their childhood and adult lives. Some of those women become victims of that violence and some become perpetrators of violence against others. My hope is that Evelyn Lozada comes to terms with her issues and actions and makes a real effort to change. Bullying is bad for both the bully and the victim. And as Evelyn Lozada and the general public has unfortunately learned, sometimes they are both one and the same.
