THE LETTER OF THE LAW / THE SPIRIT OF THE LAW (193 hits)

A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

~ Ecclesiastes 3:7 [KJV]

Amazingly, this season I have been called to speak out and against the things that fall outside of the WILL OF GOD which indeed is outside of my comfort zone. HE got me speaking on things in areas I actually have no “personal” interest to the point of me being truly surprised of the knowledge that HE is pulling out of me. Who knew I had so much wisdom inside of me; not by my might, but by HIS might! I am speaking up as I draw from the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in being used by God! Oh my goodness! I’m not ready, but I have to be whether I want to or not as called and chosen!

All things are weary with toil
and all words are feeble; man cannot utter it.
The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing.
The thing that has been—it is what will be again,
and that which has been done is that which will be done again;
and there is nothing new under the sun.

~ Ecclesiastes 3:7 [AMP]

Within the past month, God and a friend (my spiritual sister) have been talking to me about the difference between the “Spirit and the letter of the law.” Those who know the WORD OF GOD, but don’t apply it or have it in their heart! Those who are expected to enforce the law, but fail to comply with it or honor it themselves. Those who are knowledgeable about the law (rules, regulations and policies), but are more apt to break the law at will with no intent of accountability.

Who also hath made us
able ministers of the new testament;
not of the letter, but of the spirit:
for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

~ 2 Corinthians 3:6 [KJV]

Man writes or establishes a policy which becomes the law. However, that law may have nothing to do with what is "morally" right. It is merely written into law under the direction of those in power to structure a ruling to aid their personal gain on the basis of greed for more power and control. In helping me to understand more clearly, God brought to my remembrance a statement made by G.W. Bush during the reparations issue. His statement, unfortunately was his way of saying he nor the U.S. owed nothing to blacks for the way in which they (we) were mistreated in the history of slavery leading towards the civil rights movement. In fact, his statement, as misguided as it was, only encouraged the continued division/racism in giving people more of a reason for not seeing that it was morally wrong. What he stated was “slavery was the law” which is an example of a letter of the law. One of no substance that lacks morality!

And I gave my mind to know [practical] wisdom
and to discern [the character of] madness and folly
[in which men seem to find satisfaction];
I perceived that this also is a searching after wind and a feeding on it.

Ecclesiastes 1:17 [AMP]

And today, with an absence of morality, we follow through and act on things void of rhyme or reason for sake of image. That which looks good on paper with no intent of action! Attempting to project a reputation to the world that has nothing to do with character! Ruling on the basis of greed with no direction and guidance for enforcing accountability! Teaching our children a lack of responsibility as we encourage inequality and double standards instead of justice for all! Promoting division while preaching diversity of inclusion with no sign of embracing and respecting cultural differences! Circulating the US currency that references “In God We Trust” while denying folks the right to acknowledge their religious beliefs openly because someone else fails to believe and evict God from our schools!
