A Positive Image of Marriage and Family
Recently, I’ve been on a writing spree of posts celebrating my wife. To me it just seems natural for a man to celebrate how much he loves his wife, how attracted he is to her, and how much better she has made his life. But, apparently not, based on feedback I received from some readers of my posts.
One particular post I wrote was based on a (scientific) survey that having an attractive wife makes a man’s life better. My post, written for another site, was titled, “A Hot Wife, A Better Life? New Survey Says YES!” In my post, I went on to cite the survey, and share reasons why men might feel marrying somebody attractive makes life better.
In summary, the post was a collection of some of my recent favorite photos of my wife. It was my way of praising my wife (publicly), and sharing just how daggone fine I think she is. My praise of her focused on the physical, but it included the fact that I think she is a beautiful person (inside) as well.
I thought it would be received well, until I read the Facebook feed of a friend who shared my post. The friends of this friend bashed my post, and me, while my friend defended the post. After I read the comments and shared some kind words with them (smile), I got to thinking. If this post was written by a woman about how fine she thought her man was, would there have been any complaints? There may have even been praise, cosigning, and high-fiving in the Facebook feed!
I’m not sure, but what I am sure of is that there can be more public examples of how men love their wives, and think they are the greatest things that have happened to them. I can dig that, and I’m not afraid to be part of the group of men leading this push. So, in my “wife praising writing spree,” I decided to share some wife praise here on BMWK. Below are 5 reasons finding a wife is a good thing.
BMWK – Husbands, how has finding your wife been a good thing? Ladies, how are you his good thing?
1) He puts away childish things and embraces responsibility
Before marriage I used to do things like stay out all night playing video games. When I say "all night," I mean all night, like until the sun came up and I had to get ready to go to work. After marriage, I tried that a few times, and let's just say that (all night Madden tournaments) ended quickly. When a man finds a wife, he grows up pretty quickly, and begins to take responsibility by caring for his wife and family.
2) He becomes bold, but not reckless
Have you heard the term "liquid courage?" That's what a man gets after he's had too much to drink. It makes him approach people in a way he wouldn't when sober. Liquid courage can make you do some dumb things. On the other hand, finding a wife will encourage a man to become bold, but not reckless. He will defend his wife, provide for his children, and he'll do it no matter what is in his way or how hard it might be.
3) His ego will shrink, while his loves grows
love super hero movies, and one of my favorites is the Avengers, which features Hulk. When Hulk gets angry he is filled with this super human power to do (and smash) just about anything. When a man finds a wife, he gets filled with a similar super human power to love, and he doesn't care how it makes him look. A brotha in love with his wife, won't let anything get in the way of his love. Like Hulk fills up with anger and rage, a husband fills up with love, gentleness, and kindness to be expressed toward his wife. He might even write an article for the world to see about how fine his wife is.
4) He accomplishes more
The bible says "two people are better than one" (Ecclesiastes 4:9). When a man finds a wife, he is able to accomplish more than he ever would have before finding her. She is able to help him, pick him up when he falls, keep him warm at night, and support him when he is faced with challenges. I know without my wife by my side some of the challenges I've faced would have been tougher to overcome. Some I may have never overcame.
5) His blessings are multiplied
Three of the greatest things in my life have come through my wife. I'm talking about our three kids. I know there are plenty of men who have made babies without marriage, but that comes with a lot of challenges that aren't always present when a man makes a baby with his wife. Our first child was born prior to us getting married, but the blessings have multiplied since we married. They have multiplied by having two more kids, and me being active in their lives each day. The joy of creating a life, and being a father is a good thing for a man, made great, when done with his wife by his side.
