YES!!!

Governments around the world depend on translators to do business in the past, to this very day. That is the best example of somebody telling another what someone else who don't speak English, is talking about, Steve.

By the way, those Chinese words Translates into English are as follows: "To the Buddha often The world of self, have to silence from, For the way to destroy this, The Buddha has come."

The translation is:

every phenomenon from root come
constant itself peaceful extinction display
buddha son practice way finish
come world attain arise buddha

All phenomena from the very first
have of themselves constantly borne the marks of tranquil extinction.
Once the sons of the Buddha have carried out the way,
then in future existences they will be able to become buddhas.

I'm talking about ancient languages and scripture Ron. The text I quoted, is from the Great Vehicle Sutra Named Wonderful Law Lotus Flower. Commonly known in ENGLISH as the Lotus Sutra. The Kumarajiva Chinese text is from around 500 AD. It's said to be a translation of an older Sanscrit text but who knows?

Steve Williams
We do not know where or when the Lotus Sutra was composed, or in what language. Probably it was initially formulated in a local Indian dialect and then later put into Sanskrit to lend it greater respectability. All we can say for certain about the date of its composition is that it was already in existence by 255 ce, when the first Chinese translation of it was made. It was translated into Chinese several times subsequently, but it is through the version done in 406 by the Central Asian scholar-monk Kumarajiva that it has become widely known and read in China and the other countries within the Chinese cultural sphere of influence. This version has been universally acknowledged as the most authoritative and felicitous in language, and it is from this version that the present English translation has been made.

Translation and Understanding

SUBJECT

Is it possible to understand an ........ ancient language ..........without ever having studied it,

relying only on what somebody told you it meant?

----- steveAdam You are at your element with the Language Subject Always....and it does seem that for YOU,

you have learned the Ancient Language of Africa Asia in the History/thought of Buddha

GOOD......

*********************************************************************

I believe.....

If that ANCIENT LANGUAGE is to be USED by a person to explain MODERN thought

one MUST have basic knowledge, of the ANCIENT LANGUAGE..like alphabet, culture and CONTEXT of

the ANCIENT language ...

----- If it is an ANCIENT LANGUAGE that is spoken today and the person wants to use the ANCIENT

Language and CONTEXT of Recorded History and Scholarship as a LIFES' BELIEF system....

-----The Scholarly or Educated ONE:

1. that ONE MUST Study the Ancient Language/Modern Language Equivalent ....

2. that ONE MUST Study the Ancient Language/Modern Language alphabet, grammar and syntax ....

3. that ONE MUST Study the Ancient Language/Modern Language Philosophy and Context

SO NO, Never, should ONE trust a friend who is ALSO Uneducated and Unknowledgeable

********************************************************************

the UNEDUCATED do not UNDERSTAND the QUESTION....and this commentor writes...

"......YES!!!

Governments around the world depend on translators to do business in the past, to this very day.

That is the best example of somebody telling another what someone else who don't speak English,

is talking about, Steve..."

Excellent points Robert, and if the uneducated were less pugnacious he might accept his need for a modern translator of the ancient language he claims to base his understanding on.
