Dreams of being a billionaire are now in reach, thanks to the Mega Millions. Its jackpot has officially reached $1 billion for Friday’s drawing — the second largest in U.S. lottery history and the biggest in the game’s history— after yielding no winners since the end of July.
Even Powerball's jackpot has climbed to $470 million this week.
And while ticket sales have largely contributed to Mega Millions' big cash stockpile, increasing 294 percent since the pot crossed the $550 million mark, according to data scientist David Ascienzo, there has also been a major tweak to the game that has caused jackpots to balloon in recent months.
