There is no good news for the use of "Corpirosos"
Let us explore what Joy had to say in her report. Corpirosos is a broad spectrum insecticide. it's essentially a nerve agent in the same class of chemicals as sarin gas. it can cause nausea and dizziness and confusion. in high doses, it can cause vomiting, convulsions, respiratory arrest, even death.
The people who make this pesticide say that in normal low-level doses it's perfectly safe. Some agricultural experts say the science is not conclusive. Part of why it's so hard to draw a conclusion is the pesticide is too toxic to be tested on humans. it's already banned for most household uses, but chlorpyofos is all over doss of American farms.
So a few years ago the EPA decided to study whether it was safe to dump all that pesticide into the air and on to our food. hand the EPA found was kind of alarming. they looked a the research that was done at Columbia University, and this was the headline from the Columbia study. common pesticide disturbs the brains of children. The EPA came to a similar conclusion. they found that exposure to chlropyorfos had had significant long-term consequences, like declines in learning and memory, especially on people who work on farms where the pesticide is used.
So the EPA suggested banning the use of chlorpyrofos on all food crops, full stop. But that ban never happened because Donald Trump became president. Trump picked Scott Pruitt to run the EPA. and one of the first things, the very first thing Scott Pruitt did as head of that agency was to kill that ban of that pesticide, with the potential to disturb the brains of children.
He said there was not enough science to justify a blanket ban, despite what the experts at the EPA had found before he got there. if the trump administration had not quashed that ban, we would be entering our second year in this country without a drop of that chemical touching our crops. instead, the pesticide hoses are still on, and "the new york times" has done some remarkable reporting on what that looks like for Americans on the ground.
Quote, in may of 2015, Vicenta Rivera was one of the first to feel it. it has been sprayed on a grove of mandarin oranges. numb lips, itchy skin and watery eyes. the headache set in quickly. a 37-year-old mother of three remembers the smell, the dizziness, the overwhelming feeling of nausea. other workers thought she was faking it, trying to be funny when she hit the ground and started convulsing. when the invisible but toxic cloud of chlorpyrifos arrived, she thought she smelled grease or burned oil. believing it was the tractor, she turned off the engine.

EPA Actions and Regulatory History
Since its first registration in 1965, chlorpyrifos has been reviewed by EPA for tolerance reassessment, reregistration, and most recently, as part of its ongoing registration review. The following timeline summarizes the work EPA has done to ensure that as science and technology evolve registered chlorpyrifos products remain safe for use.
2000 – Voluntary Agreement to Eliminate, Phase Out and Modify Certain Uses
In 1996, the Food Quality Protection Act set a more stringent safety standard to be especially protective of children. After finalizing the chlorpyrifos risk assessments for reregistration, EPA identified the need to modify certain chlorpyrifos uses to meet the revised standard of safety, and to address health and environmental risks from chlorpyrifos exposure. In 2000, the registrants of chlorpyrifos voluntarily entered into an agreement with EPA to eliminate, phase out, and modify certain uses. Some examples of the voluntary cancellations and modifications in the agreement include:
Eliminating most homeowner uses, except ant and roach baits in child resistant packaging and fire ant mound treatments, and phasing out all termiticide uses.
Discontinuing all uses of chlorpyrifos products in the United States on tomatoes, restricting use on apples to pre-bloom and dormant application, and lowering the grape tolerance (maximum residue level) to reflect the labeled dormant application.
Read the 2006 Registration Eligibility Decision (RED) for chlorpyrifos, which finalized the 2002 Interim RED, and includes an overview of the chlorpyrifos human health risk assessment for reregistration.
2002 – Label Changes to Ensure Environmental and Worker Safety
In 2002, EPA made a number of changes to the required safety measures that improved safety for the environment and for those applying this pesticide including:
Use of buffer zones to protect water quality, fish and wildlife;
Reductions in application rates per season on a variety of crops including citrus and corn; and
Increase in amount of personal protective equipment to mitigate risk to agricultural workers.
2011 – Preliminary Human Health Risk Assessment
In 2011, as part of the registration review process, EPA completed a comprehensive preliminary human health risk assessment for all chlorpyrifos uses. This assessment included the results of extensive new research and the findings of a number of new studies that had become available since the agency’s last human health risk assessment for chlorpyrifos, completed in June 2000.

2012 – Spray Drift Mitigation and Changes to Application Rates
In 2012, EPA significantly lowered the aerial pesticide application rates and created “no-spray” buffer zones for ground, airblast and aerial application methods around public spaces, including recreational areas, schools, homes and other sensitive areas to be protective of children and other bystanders.

2014 – Revised Human Health Risk Assessment
In 2014, as part of the registration review process, EPA completed a revised human health risk assessment for all chlorpyrifos uses. The assessment updated the June 2011 preliminary human health risk assessment based on new information received, including public comments. EPA factored in exposures from multiple sources including from the exposures from food and water, from inhaling the pesticide and through the skin. EPA considered all populations including infants, children, and women of child-bearing age. EPA incorporated information from a 2012 assessment of spray drift exposure and as well as new restrictions put into place to limit spray drift.

Using Chlorpyrifos Products Safely
The current chlorpyrifos labels require workers handling and applying chlorpyrifos to wear additional personal protective equipment (chemical resistant gloves, coveralls, respirators), and restricting entry into treated fields for 24 hours up to five days.
Chlorpyrifos can cause cholinesterase inhibition in humans at high enough doses; that is, it can overstimulate the nervous system causing nausea, dizziness, confusion, and at very high exposures (e.g., accidents or major spills), respiratory paralysis and death.

How might I be exposed to chlorpyrifos?
People can be exposed to pesticides by eating them, breathing them in, or getting them on the skin or in the eyes. You could be exposed to chlorpyrifos if you apply products containing chlorpyrifos either as part of your job or outside of your own home. If a bait station in the house contains chlorpyrifos, people or pets could be exposed if the bait station is broken. People could be exposed to chlorpyrifos if their well water has been contaminated. This can happen if products containing chlorpyrifos were used near the well for termite control.
What are some signs and symptoms from a brief exposure to chlorpyrifos?
Chlorpyrifos affects the nervous system of people, pets, and other animals the same way it affects the target pest. Signs and symptoms can appear within minutes to hours after exposure. These effects can last for days or even weeks. During this time, the body is replacing the depleted enzymes in the nervous system so it can function normally again.
STEVE PAY ATTENTION: Exposure to small amounts of chlorpyrifos can cause runny nose, tears, and increased saliva or drooling. People may sweat, and develop headache, nausea, and dizziness. More serious exposures can cause vomiting, abdominal muscle cramps, muscle twitching, tremors and weakness, and loss of coordination. Sometimes people develop diarrhea or blurred or darkened vision. In severe poisoning cases, exposure can lead to unconsciousness, loss of bladder and bowel control, convulsions, difficulty in breathing, and paralysis.
What happens to chlorpyrifos when it enters the body?
Chlorpyrifos moves to all parts of the body after exposure. Chlorpyrifos itself is not toxic, but when the body tries to break it down, it creates a toxic form. This toxic form, called chlorpyrifos oxon, binds permanently to enzymes which control the messages that travel between nerve cells. When chlorpyrifos binds to too many of the enzymes, nerves and muscles do not function correctly. The body then must make more enzymes so that normal nerve function can resume. The body can break down and excrete most of the unbound chlorpyrifos in feces and urine within a few days. Chlorpyrifos that finds its way into the nervous system may stay there much longer.
Are children more sensitive to chlorpyrifos than adults?
Chorpyrifos exposure was linked to changes in social behavior and brain development as well as developmental delays in young laboratory animals. Other studies showed that chlorpyrifos affected the nervous system of young mice, rats, and rabbits more severely than adult animals.
Researchers studied the blood of women who were exposed to chlorpyrifos and the blood of their children from birth for three years. Children who had chlorpyrifos in their blood had more developmental delays and disorders than children who did not have chlorpyrifos in their blood. Exposed children also had more attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity disorders.

The use of chlorpyrifos in agriculture can leave chemical residue on food commodities. The FFDCA requires EPA to set limits, known as tolerances, for pesticide residue in human food and animal feed products based on risk quotients for acute and chronic exposure from food in humans.[113][114] These tolerances limit the amount of chlorpyrifos that can be applied to crops. FDA enforces EPA's pesticide tolerances and determines “action levels” for the unintended drift of pesticide residues onto crops without tolerances.[115]
After years of research without a conclusion and cognizant of the court order to issue a final ruling, the EPA proposed to eliminate all tolerances for chlorpyrifos ("Because tolerances are the maximum residue of a pesticide that can be in or on food, this proposed rule revoking all chlorpyrifos tolerances means that if this approach is finalized, all agricultural uses of chlorpyrifos would cease.") and solicited comments.[116] The Dow Chemical Company is actively opposed to tolerance restrictions on chlropyrifos and is currently lobbying the White House to, among other goals, pressure EPA to reverse its proposal to revoke chlorpyrifos food residue tolerances.[117]
The EPA has not updated the approximately 112 tolerances pertaining to food products and supplies since 2006.[114][118] However, in a 2016 report, EPA scientists had not been able to find any level of exposure to the pesticide that was safe.[62] The EPA 2016 report states in part "...this assessment indicates that dietary risks from food alone are of concern..." the report also states that previous published risk assessments for "chlorpyrifos may not provide a [sufficient]...human health risk assessment given the potential for neurodevelopmental outcomes." [63]
″The ...[food only] exposures for chlorpyrifos are of risk concern ...for all population subgroups analyzed. Children (1–2 years old) is the population subgroup with the highest risk estimate at 14,000% of the ssPADfood.″[63]
Based on 2006 EPA rules, Chlorpyrifos has a tolerance of 0.1 part per million (ppm) residue on all food items unless a different tolerance has been set for that item or chlorpyrifos is not registered for use on that crop.[119] EPA set approximately 112 tolerances pertaining to food products and supplies.[114][118] In 2006, to reduce childhood exposure, the EPA amended its chlorpyrifos tolerance on apples, grapes and tomatoes, reducing the grape and apple tolerances to 0.01 ppm and eliminating the tolerance on tomatoes.[114] Chlorpyrifos is not allowed on crops such as spinach, squash, carrots, and tomatoes; any chlorpyrifos residue on these crops normally represents chlorpyrifos misuse or spray drift.[114]
Food handling establishments (places where food products are held, processed, prepared or served) are included in the food tolerance of 0.1 ppm for chlorpyrifos. Food handling establishments may use a 0.5% solution of chlorpyrifos solely for spot and/or crack and crevice treatments.[118] Food items are to be removed or protected during treatment. Food handling establishment tolerances may be modified or exempted under FFDCA sec. 408.[120]

I'm still researching Ron. It turns out one of the top 5 crops where chlorpyrifos is used is almonds and bees are one of the species negatively impacted by its use. In the Central Valley, where I moved my family about 30 years ago, almonds are one of the main crops and bees are brought in by the farmers each year to pollinate the almonds. When the trees are shaken in the fall to dislodge the almonds, at that time of year my ex-wife always has respiratory problems.
